Children dying in pain on waiting lists and the CEO of children’s health Ireland costs tax payers a fortune because she wants to bend the rules to suit herself.
How many operations would that have funded. Read the room love, nobody is in the mood for this level of hubris.
Government could at any time over any of the last FFFG Governments (about 20 years) have legislated to specify that the right under employment law to a contract of indefinite duration after multiple fixed term contracts does not apply to people earning more than, say, €150,000 per annum (should be index linked obviously) or who serves in a senior / CEO role for a public or semi-state sector body.
But they didn’t because they have scarcely an ounce of competence to share between them over all of those 20 years.
The right to a permanent contract after multiple fixed term contracts exists to protect workers lower down the chain from being abused. Afaik it is invoked most frequently by junior academics in universities (who can be pretty downtrodden a lot of the time).
