Almost £1bn of goods from the Chinese region infamous for widespread slave labour have been imported into the UK in the last 12 months.
An investigation by *The i Paper* has obtained the first detailed list of all the products being flown into the country from Xinjiang, where hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs are allegedly forced to work in factories and fields against their will.
Vast numbers of clothes, toys, furniture and other items have been flown in from the region – including nearly two million T-shirts, 243,00 bras, 170,000 toothbrushes, 30,000 hair dryers, 6,000 lawn-mowers and 15,200kg of walnuts.
This is despite the UN warning of potential “crimes against humanity” in Xinjiang. China forcefully denies this, but the House of Commons has declared Beijing’s policy in the region a “genocide”; the EU has criticised the “atrocities”, and the US has banned all imports from the region.
Rahima Mahmut, executive director of the campaign group Stop Uyghur Genocide, described the findings as “a national disgrace”.
Analysis of flight records shows that thousands of tonnes of items are being flown straight to British airports from Xinjiang’s provincial capital Ürümqi by two UK-based airlines: European Cargo and Titan Airways.

What about the UK’s growing slave labour problem or are we going to ignore that? Do you think those people delivering your pizzas, cooking your takeaway, shaving your beard, picking your fruit aren’t modern day slaves?
Yes this is a what about. And YES we should be asking what about our own problems!
I’m soooo bored of us pointing at others failures while our country falls apart. Grow up people. The government enabled this. They encouraged this. They want this. And so do you.

Yeah no shit. Half of it is promoted to the front page of Amazon because they pay for higher searches. The other half is off the Tik Tok shop, Temu, Wish, Shein, etc.

I mean, yep, we outsource the bad things like pollution and slavery so we get to pat ourselves on the back for being the good guys and benefit from the cheap products and cleaner air.

UK delivery companies are scamming the Delivery people delivering these Temu/Shein items. They are getting paid as low as 0.45p per item.
But they are self employed so if they deliver 30 per hour that’s only £13.50. minimum wage… But they are self employed which means they have to pay for their Vehicle, MOT, tax, fuel, insurance, breakdowns etc etc.
So if you ever wonder why your online shopping parcels are being delivered not in a branded Van but instead in an old Toyota Yaris and the driver leaves it at your door and walks away… Read the above.
Companies only care about profit, they give no shits about the crap service you are getting.
We are in a race to the bottom. Capitalist Venture companies that own the Delivery companies are strangling every Penny out of their investments.

I work in apparel production and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to determine if cotton is being produced by Uyghur slave labour in the Xinjiang region, which produces around 80% of the cotton in China. It’s not about where the clothes are made, or even where the fabric is printed or dyed, it’s where the “greige” comes from, the undyed base cloth. We require all of the mills we use to certify they don’t use Xinjiang cotton, but there’s so much mixing and crossover of sources I do wonder how they know. The obvious solution is to source cotton elsewhere, which we do, but other sources have their own issues, or are too expensive for public expectation.

Boris and Princess Carrie would not have let this happen. This is a travesty.
