    Quindi parliamo!

Let's talk cannabis! How do you feel about prohibition?

    1. I don’t mind if they legalize it but I really really hate the smell, I just don’t want it near my house

Open to it. But probably not as tax-beneficial due to lower usage compared to Canada/USA for example. So probably not worth it from a tax revenue standpoint.

The Snus, however, is a complete tax loss and burden. Basically subsidizing Swedish tax system due to not selling it here and collecting tax revenue on it. Such a shame to not have that money for the healthcare system for example… I wonder how much the loss is yearly from not taxing it….

It’s not a taboo topic at all to me. I don’t think personal use of any drugs should be criminalized. Distribution however is another thing.

I think people see weed as harmless while it’s not, but as long as I don’t have to smell it, it’s their choice whether to use it.

    4. Seems a bit pointless. I don’t use it myself but I know a lot of people who do it daily and it doesn’t seem to change their behavior at all. Just like they smoked a cigarette.

Smells like shit. I think it should be 100x times more expensive so it wouldn’t smell everywhere.

Strict prohibition of cannabis is nothing but hypocritical when alcohol, a much more dangerous substance, is legal, widely available and socially accepted and even encouraged.

Prohibition also doesn’t stop people from consuming cannabis, it simply makes them acquire it illegally without any quality control, meaning it could contain actually dangerous substances. Prohibition also means putting more money in criminals’ hands instead of in the tax coffers, encouraging gang activity.

Our drug laws are completely backwards and quite frankly an embarrassment. It’s been proven time and time again that legalized cannabis is perfectly workable, but there’s zero political will for it in this country that seems stuck in the 80s.

Just like with any prohibition, I believe criminalizing and forbidding only creates a black market. We should legalize all drug use and leave it to qualified dispensaries to provide them to people.

This would eliminate the lethal, whacky street cocktails and also ensure quality control. Like the alcohol prohibition of the 1920s, the “war on drugs” mentality that started in the 1970s is moral flag-waving that causes more harm and crime than it prevents, saving fewer lives and families.

Open to it, but focus should be on more important matters: job availability, climate change, immigration issues, …

Seems like a good idea to me, just need to make sure it’s not readily accessible to children as it can have a detrimental impact the development of their brains. Adults however should have the right to choose what they do.

As to the comments on smell having been to several major US cities I can relate. While I like the smell personally I don’t want to be around it all the time (just enjoy a whif here or there). One potential solution is to sell more edibles, or be strict around where it can be smoked.

Prohibition is dumb, it has not worked anywhere in the world, ever. And it is not working here right now either. To highlight the silliness of it in Finland’s context: it is actually _easier_ for children under 18 to get their hands on cannabis rather than alcohol in Finland currently.

Substance abuse issues should be a public health matter, not a criminal matter.

My take on it is: cannabis use/possession should be decriminalised. Cultivating for personal use as well.

Selling to others should still be illegal (like you can’t sell your homemade wine etc either, health reasons). Selling via government regulated dispensaries (think Alko420) of quality controlled product. Smoking in public spaces should be just as (or even more) prohibited as smoking cigarettes is.

No easy answers, at least to my mind. I have seen from few old friends that have consumed it for well over a decade the kind of damage extensive use will do. It is not harmless. The illegality and stigma prohibits use to a degree.

The utopia of legalizing and taxing will not work. In places like California and Colorado the black market has taken back it’s foothold. Certified and taxed products are way more expensive than the ‘the dude’ you can call up – so people flock back to the shadier more affordable sources.

And let’s be honest. Finland is a overtaxed hell hole. If the substance was regulated, taxed and sold in alko – it would be ridiculously expensive. -> people would just call ‘the dude’.

I say legalise atleast self-growing and possesing.

There already are vulnerable teens and there should be better services for them instead of being arrested for possession. 10% of people have genetic tendency for psychoses and weed can trigger this in harmful way. But these people are already in trouble with hidden use.

I am an adult and I should have a freedom to use weed when ever I please. I don’t need someone to baby sit and control me on that.

I have PTSD and anxiety. Research has shown cannabis helping with PTSD. Also I would love to use weed instead of highly addictive benzos and the muscle relaxants.

The Finnish goverment is being hypocrit. Alcohol is way more harmful than marihuana. Every adult has the right to use and even abuse alcohol. Many self-medicate with it which is greatly harmful to themselves and people around them. But yet they do not allow people to relax and enjoy of weed.

Behind the closed doors I have read the home growing is not rare in Finland.

Only a question of time. Time that should be used to make a sensible legal framework in regards to taxation and licences. If the idea was to remove as much money from criminal enterprises I would make it legal for anyone to grow for their own without any paperwork.
