There are three different methods for a candidate to get nominated:
Be nominated by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas (this means TDs or Senators).
Be nominated by at least four local authorities (county or city councils).
Former or retiring Presidents can nominate themselves if they have only served one term.’
Doesn’t mention a formal application form like you have to have to run to be a county councillor. Is there an actual formal declaration?
I mean technically anyone can declare a bid for the presidency. Getting nominated is another thing entirely.
Which is why I would like to take this opportunity to formally declare my bid for the presidency. I won’t get nominated and honestly that is probably for the best. Tough act to follow and all.

It’s 2025 and crime still isn’t illegal.
This guy is a self-serving grifter. It’s really fascinating to watch the different facets of the Irish right try to be the lightning rod for some kind of movement that is just never going to coalesce around them. We have a half dozen wannabe Nigel Farages and Donald Trumps just hoping their brand of dogma will be the thing that galvanises the Irish people into the ideological conservatives they KNOW we are somehow.
