Feels like it’s never really by choice
Based on my ancectodal evidence, economic opportunity for young Luxembourgers is rapidly diminishing and many are trying their luck elsewhere. Am I wrong?
Not surprised, only very few career fields that can sustain the cost of living in Luxembourg. So if you’re not interested or talented in these fields you can either be relatively poor or desperately demotivated working some job unrelated to your talent. I’m more surprised by the number of people who chose to stay…
One factor that the article does not address is that the number of people receiving the Luxembourgish passport through naturalization has gone up in the past years. I would argue that a non negotiable number of these people have less ties to Luxembourg (as in things that would keep them here) and are thus more mobile and more likely to move to another EU country given that their Luxembourgish passport allows free movement. The passport is basically a door opener to the job market in the Schengen area. That‘s not to say that the other factors in the article are playing no role or a smaller role. Just wanted to point that out.
