Germany does not intend to agree to the European Commission’s planned sanctions against Israel due to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The plan is to halt cooperation on the Horizon Europe research funding programme. However, according to Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, this would probably have no impact on Israel’s political decision-making and military actions in the Gaza Strip. For this reason, the CDU politician said, Germany is not particularly convinced by the proposals.

Wadephul instead pointed out that Germany is restricting its arms deliveries to Israel. ‘I believe this is a very targeted measure that is very important and very necessary.’ Scientific cooperation, on the other hand, makes sense.

The European Commission wants to impose sanctions on Israel because of the catastrophic situation in Gaza, but Germany continues to refuse to participate. Foreign Minister Wadephul says the planned measures would have no impact on the war.

      EU divided, majority uncertain

Whether the Commission’s proposed sanctions can be implemented depends on whether they receive the support of a qualified majority in the Council of Member States – that is, 15 of the 27 EU countries, representing at least 65 per cent of the population of the participating Member States, must agree. Most recently, only Germany or Italy’s support was missing. All other large EU states and many smaller ones are in favour of the punitive measures.

Whether that will be enough is questionable. EU Foreign Affairs Representative Kaja Kallas said she was not very confident that the sanctions would go ahead. Even the current ‘rather lenient’ proposal does not have majority support. ‘This sends the message that we are divided,’ Kallas said.

      Fuck Israel, Fuck Germany

Greetings from the shithole you call Germany

Germany has never failed to embrace it’s love of fascist holocausts.

    4. Release all hostages, release zivil hostages, release Thai hostages! These kidnapper criminals are so despicable.

Germany is such a barrier to anything good in Europe. It should never have been allowed to reunify, or frankly even exist at all.

Why do innocent Palestinian children have to pay for Germnay’s past mistakes with their lives? If Germany wants to make-up for the past, why don’t they give their land to Jewish people? Why are they funding a war machine to repeat the same mistakes of the holocaust, but this time the victim as the perpetrator? When does this violence end? How does a new genocide make up for an old genocide? None of this makes sense.

Important context: only Spain supports sanctions at an EU level, and even then they accepted a huge deal with Elvit systems recently and a popular explanation as to why they support it is to distract the electorate from Pedro Sanchez’s corruption scandals.

Even Ireland does not support sanctions.

How did Europe get into the strange position where wide parts of the political landscape are constantly fraternising with the enemy, the Russia-Iran-China axis? Any Palestinian State would be a part of this axis, illustrated by Hamas having official visits in Moscow. If Palestinians are able to recover, they will sooner or later take part in the russian attack on Europe. [Palestinian propaganda has always been clear about their intent to attack Europe after finishing off Israel.](https://jcpa.org/hamas-looks-beyond-jerusalem-to-rome-and-beyond/)

I also wonder what these peoples plan is for when Russia attacks. Will they also be screeching about not doing any harm to any russian civilian when Russia fires missiles from schools and hospitals?

It’s so disgusting. They should like no other know how wrong it is

    10. Germany is so weak that it will do anything as long as it does not have an anti-Israel patch. They would probably even support the genocide in Gaza if Israel demanded it.

The EU doesn’t get any strategic benefits from recognizing Palestine or sanctioning Israel.

Democracies should be standing together against authoritarianism (H@mas and r@ssia). It is our duty as europeans, christians and citizens of the first world to counter any anti-semitic and anti-ukrainian propaganda, glad Germany stands firm on this matter 🇪🇺

    13. LordEik00cTheTemplar on

Well the opposite headline would be: “Germany agrees to sanctions against Israel, is Germany antisemitic again?”

I feel like it’s time to protest outside German embassies in the EU. The way they protect evil is becoming intolerable.

The way the Berlin police fight against people peacefully protesting genocide. They try to justify “selected targeted strikes” (repeated punches to the face of whoever they want to pubish) as necessary to clear protests. When clearing can be done by grabbing and carrying people to vans instead.

These people have every right to protest. They are not violent. They are just not compliant. That is a form of protest. The don’t deserve to be met with thuggish violence from Berlin authority.

      Germany is disgraced again.

    15. Disgusting but expected, i like to know how they will spin it tough when all the population will be forced and be displaced in other territories. Germany is a joke and i am extremely happy that they are failing economically, i hope it gets even harder for them.

Germany can’t stop help himself siding with fascists I guess.

Expected. To sanction Israel you need a functioning moral compass and a spine.

Maybe they’ll agree to give 60% germany to make a new state of Israel?

Belarus received the same sanctions as Russia just because Russia used its territory.

Israel is literally wiping Gaza off the face of the earth, and the EU is merely expressing concern.

      Isn’t that hypocritical?
