This is based on the recent release of the [Garda report on knife crime](https://www.garda.ie/en/about-us/our-departments/office-of-corporate-communications/press-releases/2025/august/an-garda-siochana-knife-related-crime-analysis-2015-2024.html), which compares knife crimes from the five-year period 2020-2024 compared with 2015-2019.

      This shows

      – 40% drop in knife crime during robbery in retail
      – 35% drop in knife crime during street robbery
      – 28% increase in knives seized

against an overall background of falling crime in general.

Obviously, *reporting* on knife crime is up 186% during this period.

I remember when the East Europeans were here about twenty years ago, they would have house parties, and nearly every weekend in the papers, there was a stabbing. One simply has to Google “Lithuanian stabbed at house party Dublin” to watch all the incidents that appear,Latvians too, and of course Polish people were prone to knife violence at house parties. It’s simply a cultural thing, now they’re (mostly) gone, the stats have plummeted. Stats don’t lie.

Housing crisis means people don’t have a place to store their knife collections for stabbing people.

Remember people used to go on holidays and casually bring back samurai swords?
