So was measles, smallpox, tuberculosis, polio etc.
Maybe he’d like a dose of those

    2. Krabsandwich on

Many cases of chickenpox are mild and children get over it relatively quickly, if however a child gets a severe dose or the rash gets infected its a different story. Immunisation means children are protected and I for one think that’s a bloody good idea.

Death is just a part of life (the end part); so let’s not treat cancer, heart disease etc.

      >”I think the way they were doing it originally was fine, wasn’t it? Chickenpox parties, you know, it gets it out the way when they’re young.

      >”I had chickenpox, I’m still here, I think it’s just a part of life.

      >”I’m not a medical expert but I don’t know why they’re now encouraging it when it was fine for years and years and years and years.

Can’t read this any other way than “I’m alright, Jack”. It also says a lot about a person when they explicitly acknowledge that they have no idea what they’re talking about but still feel the need to offer their tuppence.

Being anti-vax seems like a good measure of whether someone is fit for public office. Either they’re an idiot or trying to con you into something.

What medical qualifications does he have to say this?

Or is it the maga / rfk approach.

      > “**I’m not a medical expert** but I don’t know why they’re now encouraging it when it was fine for years and years and years and years.

Then maybe you should stop spouting uninformed opinions and listen to the people who *are* medical experts.

We’re in a bizarre stage of human existence where the generation that suffered with diseases, which have been vaccinated against, are dying out. So we’re in this human invisibility phase of ignorance.
These Reform councillors need to turn off GB, Fox News and stop looking at the mental decisions the likes of prune face RFK in America is making.

“I’m not a medical expert but”

Hey now no need to be modest here! You got a suit and everything all those science people don’t know what they’re talking about

Chickenpox is mild for most as a small child, but once you get to teenage years or older and you get it, it’s horrible, I didn’t get it till i was 15 and then ended up with other health issues afterwards. My kids are 13 and haven’t had it, even though as toddlers we socialised them with kids who had it. I would love to vaccinate them. Maybe there is an argument for not vaccinating till, for example, 5, if not had it? But at the end of the day, if science has been able to give us vaccines against things, why not make the most of it?

So the, anti-vaxers are back again. I expect the bot farms will be pushing this as well as migrant scare stories.

Proof that reform is getting all of its polices from the dumbest people in America. Reform is an offshoot of maga. Women’s rights and children’s health are in danger, women are dying from sepsis due to the lack of healthcare services during pregnancy and kids are dying from measles. Careful what you wish for because this won’t end well.

The guy is a fuckin fetus, why the fuck are we listening to his opinions on anything

Does the Chickenpox vaccine e prevent Shingles in later life? If not, then I sort of agree with him, after having recently seen my dad siffer with shingles. Totally debilitating for many, and can leave serious lasting effects.

If it does prevent shingles, then he is a bloody idiot.

    16. Maybe if he gets shingles in the eye he will think differently.

    17. the_magicwriter on

Cancer is a part of life so presumably he’d just be happy to die if he got such a diagnosis.

    18. ash_ninetyone on

      He’s 19. How’s he remember chickenpox parties? I don’t think they’ve been a thing in decades?

Vaccines are a safer and more controlled way to gain immunity than contracting the disease it protects you from.

I know chickenpox is usually not fatal or serious. But it can be in a few people, and in others, the virus can manifest as shingles.

    19. Kousetsu on

*Christ* the bar is so fucking low he can’t even speak about the real (potentially minor) concern of the increase in shingles if we provide a chicken pox vaccine. Like, it would be cool to have a real conversation about reality and not this fucking bullshit nothing. How can anyone listen to this and think “perfect, got my vote”?

    20. These kinds of “people” need to be locked up. Saying this shit as an elected official should get you removed from office and put through a show trial.

    21. Reasonable-Client143 on

I guess. But it doesn’t have to be. Which is kind of the point. But if he wants his own children to go through that then maybe he should avoid parenthood

    22. vocalfreesia on

Chicken pox seems minor until it’s not. Worked with a family whose kid had two brain stem strokes after chicken pox. Went from typically developing kid to wheelchair, trache, tube fed, cognitively harmed for life. I would vaccinate even if I had to pay privately if I had kids.

    23. Orangesteel on

Ah, the UK’s very own MAGA. There are important reasons for this vaccine. Research based reasons. Anti-science as a stance should worry everyone. It’s ill informed and not just stupid, worse, it’s dangerous. Please, however you protest. Don’t vote reform.

    24. NagelRawls on

I nearly died from chickenpox when I was very young, highly doubt nearly dying at the age of 3 is a supposed to be just a part of life.
