*The toxicity of this is frightening*
In May, a number of homes occupied by Catholic families were targeted by masked men, with windows smashed in and cars damaged.
Following discussions with a local UDA chief and a community representative, it was agreed residents would be allowed time to be rehoused without the risk of further attacks.
That arrangement has now been torn up on the orders of a senior figure in the gang. It is understood four Catholic families living in the estate have been told to leave immediately.
The intermediary who brokered the agreement has also received bullets in the post and a warning to stay out of the lower Oldpark area.
Masked men? Cowards too afraid to show their faces more like.
To be faced with such thuggery and intimidation for simply living in an area which you’ve every right to live in is horrific.
These arseholes need the book thrown at them. Every charge from hate crimes to intimidation to inciting violence and lock up them up for decades.
Parade these lads in front of every news programme and see how “though” they are without their masks. Publish *their* addresses.
They’re terrified of a united Ireland as they know they wouldn’t be tolerated here and would have to flee to their motherland.
British Government Logic:
Nanas wearing Palestine Action t-shirts = terrorism
Using violence and threats to force catholics out of their home = … not terrorism?
Just a reminder: These are the people that the anti-immigrant crowd are allied with.
Can’t wait to see the UK government’s response to actual terrorism now
Meanwhile the PSNI do nothing and turn a blind eye. The IRA disbanded but the loyalist terrorists never did and were never made disband.
Imagine it was dissident republicans doing this? They would bring in SWAT teams.
Loyalists kicking Catholics out of their homes in Belfast.
It’s August 2025 right, not 1969?
The toxic bilge that’s driving other far right groups is also likely inflaming and reemboldening some of this. The rise of extreme politics plays straight into destabilising a situation that’s always been based on hate.
And of course nothing will be done – arresting elderly people with pro Palestine T-shirts is much easier, and more on trend with modern populist authoritarianism.
I thought ethnic cleansing died off
Looks like times haven’t changed, may aswell just call them the RUC again, if they don’t pull their finger out
What is going to happen next summer when Belfast is hosting the Fleadh Cheoil? There will be a large influx of people from the Republic celebrating traditional Irish music there. A lot will be from Catholic backgrounds (or non practicing).
The UDA don’t have the authority to order anyone around. Headline should read threaten.
This must be fake news – Protestants and Catholics are now united against migrants /s
How is this happening in this day and age.
>UDA members were carrying out sectarian murders and bombings and often colluding with British security forces and the RUC.
Oh yeahhh, I remember those guys.
What year is it?
The double standards are shocking. The UDA & UVF operate openly without any criticism from the Irish Press. But the second it’s election time we get countless opinion pieces and claims of an IRA army council (with no evidence)
