      I love this obvious smear campaign that’s going on in R/Ireland against Connolly. Fucking disgrace this sub is.

      Aaaaand she’s fucked. That’s not the kind of judgement you would put in the way of signing laws into effect.

      One of the main things that harms the credibility of some of the left in Ireland is the insistence that anything pro-Palestine and anti-NATO is good because of that fact alone. Hence you have people like Tadhg Hickey doing a promo tour for the Iranian government, Connolly meeting Assad loyalists, Mick Wallace and Clare Daly repeating Russian talking points.

      NATO is a military alliance that’s operated around the world for decades. Some things they’ve done have been terrible, some things have been great. The myopic insistence that everything NATO-related has been evil American imperialism is just as stupid as thinking everything NATO have ever done is perfect. It seems to be the case that people on the far-left like Daly, Hickey, Wallace and Connolly herself all insist you have to pick one though.

      I listened to that interview, the more she spoke the less I respected her, I will admit to not liking her politics in the first place but she just came across as the worst bumptious listen to me/I’m bloody great/conscience of the nation type who had to be dragged to an acknowledgement of foolish actions while still with an undertow of believing she is basically right.

      One thing which really annoyed was her repeated insistence that “no one is talking about Gaza” on RTE which literally features that war more than any other international issue on radio, on TV, online. She’s obsessed by it and as such it feels as if she’d have great difficulty stopping herself from issuing political thoughts on the war while President of Ireland.

      If you are a politician and have a cause stay in politics and out of the Aras.

      Still waiting on a whole raft of people’s opinions on alawites and druze being massacred and gunned down in their gardens by Islamist gangs now that Assad is gone.

      I recall the likes of Ivana Backik welcoming the overthrow of Assad and the consequent Islamist takeover of the country by Al Qaida.

      You could hear a mouse in the grass they have been so silent.

      I’m a leftie, and I will make idealogical sacrifices when voting for office with the goal of furthering the cause 

      However, the presidency is a different role.  We’ve had a massive lefty president in office for 14 years, has he affected political outcomes much? He’s been a fantastic face for Ireland, and that what the role is, Grand Ambassador.

      Connolly has made too many international faux pas to make me think she is suitable for that role

      Campaign ending interview. She came across as going through the motions of saying sorry but not sorry. She only regrets it because it is now going to damage her election hopes.

      Sinn Fein better select a candidate because if they back her the Left will be wiped out in this election.
