On 28 August, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that Robert Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, had been banned from entering Hungary and “the entire Schengen area”. As the reason for this decision, he cited attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline, through which Hungary still receives Russian oil.
In 2022, the EU banned the purchase of Russian oil. Only Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria were granted a postponement, as these countries have no access to the sea and cannot receive tankers from alternative suppliers. The EU has since stressed that they have had sufficient time to diversify and reduce their dependence on Russian oil.
Hungary’s attacks against Ukraine are not new, and they have intensified since 2014 — even more so since 2022 — as the Hungarian leadership has taken a pro-Russian line and repeatedly disregarded EU decisions.

As a Hungarian I kinda feel ashamed of our corrupt pro-Russia government. Right now, like 8 months before the 2026 elections, all serious polls show them like 8–12% behind the opposition Tisza.
In a real democracy they would almost surely lose. But sadly we don’t live in one, it’s more like a state-capture mafia government. I have no illusions. We are Russia’s crown jewel as well inside the EU for disruption.
This will be really tough against all the money, propaganda and constantly changing rules but millions of us want change. Stay strong until then. Glory to Ukraine! Long live the heroes!
