No win for DCC in this one

Leave them up and it really is telling these lads they can do what they want.

Take them down and you’re playing into their hands

I despise how these right wing crowds steal the flag from us and try to turn it into a symbol of hate. It’s vile.

Same shit is happening here in Drogheda where a new piece of art with the star and crescent keeps getting vandalised, cause some nutters decided it was a call to arms for Muslims. And not a symbol with a long history here in Drogheda. They keep placing a flag over the symbol, as well as spray painting a cross on it (cause, as well know, the catholic church hasn’t caused any significant damage in Ireland).

A tiny tiny minority of racists trying to dictate to the larger community about who can live in that area.
so called patriots who sponge off the real workers in Ireland.

    4. deargearis on

Reclaim our flag off these gobshites. Then whatever they start flying in instead, take that too.

    5. IntentionFalse8822 on

We need to reclaim the flag. Make it a symbol of inclusiveness. Launch a major campaign to have everyone fly the flag and have migrants at the heart of the media campaign.

The cunts using the flag colours like this get their money from Brits.

    7. AluminiumCrackers on

Leave the Irish flags. Put other flags alongside them.

    8. brbrcrbtr on

These are plastered all around North Clondalkin as well, South Dublin County Council seem fairly proactive in taking them down but the proud patriots must have bought a bulk supply from Temu and they go right back up.

Honestly I don’t mind it, I hate the message they’re trying to get across but at least flags are festive. I think the best way to combat it is actually adding more flags, some EU ones and some Pride ones would look great

    9. Mean_Exam_7213 on

Leave them up. Like everything else the scauldies are involved with, they’ll be neglected and fall to tatters and ultimately are a reflection on them

    10. Sinwarnagig on

They’re just flags leave them there. I have one flying in my back yard myself.

    11. Boldboy72 on

shouldn’t they be flying their Russian flags? That’s who commands them through tiktok and facebook

    12. Hairycherryberry123 on

Wait is the Irish flag like the American and British flags now?😭

    13. EnvironmentalHat8771 on

Haha cant these paytriots stop copying the Brits? Operation raise the flags!! Jaysus

    14. Margrave75 on

I assume the people putting them up are maintaining them, not letting them go to tatters, etc……….

    15. miju-irl on

It’s our national flag that symbolises us all, and we should be proud to fly it wherever and whenever without being made feel ashamed of doing that.

    16. howtoeattheelephant on

How do they distinguish between the flag of our nation and the flag of our nation put up by someone you disagree with?

      Thoughtcrime, anyone?

    17. Fuck the far right and anyone who is appropriating the flag for racist purposes, but how would anyone genuinely distinguish between an anti-immigrant tricolour and someone putting the flag up for a match or St. Patrick’s Day?

    18. If the councils do anything, they should put up more flags. If they start taking down the tricolour they’re just going to drive more people towards that ideology.

    19. MaelduinTamhlacht on

Isn’t the law (often ignored) that the national flag can only be flown by official bodies?

    20. Shoddy_Article5056 on

For a load of irish nationalists these far right lads sure love copying the english

    21. fekoffwillya on

The flag(any flag) is a tool loved by fascists. It has always been the case and is one of early weapons taken to protect their movement. If you fight against they accuse you of being against what it represents and if you ignore it they take over the identity of it. It’s a complete mess.

    22. stoneagefuturist on

Take down the flag and you play into their hands. Celebrate the flag and Ireland’s values, combine it with humanitarian and friendly messaging.

    23. anykah_badu on

If you remove or demonise national flags, you’re just helping these people gain more traction. They can claim to be oppressed and victimised, and in a way, they are right. Run a campaign with everyone embracing the flag and make sure it is not at odds with immigration in the public consciousness, and the other way around

Immigration and national pride should be made compatible

You are doing either of them wrong if that’s not the case tbh

There’s been an issue with for-profit immigration where a few individuals make loads of money to the detriment of everyone else in Ireland, Britain, Germany, and who knows where else

I think you actually have to improve the immigration system too, not just tell people to shut up about it or you’re really empowering far right movements that want no immigration at all

    24. ToothpickSham on

i’d recommend everyone put it up than let it be co-opted, places of worship to community centers

    25. I Send a complaint to lighting @ dcc. I simply drew attention to their own policy that states nothing can be hung from or attached to lamp posts without prior permission. Take the flag away from it and get them to enforce their own policies.
