>The Policy Exchange think tank has claimed that leaving the ECHR would not jeopardise peace in Northern Ireland, where it underpins the Good Friday Agreement.
Article 1 requires ECHR to be applied across a state’s entire jurisdiction. GFA requires ECHR to be incorporated into Northern Irish legislations _in full_. The only way to reconcile this is to call for a border poll in Ireland and make sure the Republicans win – an outcome that I don’t really mind.

WHY? This is so frustrating – are they intentionally trying to lose the next election?!
Putting aside the MAJOR ISSUE that a foreign court supersedes UK laws passed through parliament… At a MINIMUM, Europe should be given the ultimatum:
**Let us rejoin the Dublin Regulation or we’re leaving the ECHR** – and that’s the end of it…

The ECHR and the HRA are beginning to be treated with the same weird reverence Americans give to the US constitution. If it’s causing more problems than it solves, we should absolutely talk about scrapping it, instead of engaging in this bizarre, legalistic idolatry.

One could argue the ECHR is protecting everyone but the British people and therefore needs to be removed and replaced with a law we can change. The lawyers use the ECHR all the time to veto any attempts at deporting most people.

I don’t see how leaving the ECHR and all the chaos that it would bring would stop the small boats or how the cost benefit would be worth it.
Almost smells like a scam from those who just want rid of it.

Starmer’s reverence for outdated asylum frameworks and international laws over the demands of the British public who he represents is just baffling.

If you’re upset about how the ‘protesters’ in Epping are being treated, or think that your right to free speech isn’t being upheld, take the government to court in Strasbourg while you can.
Once Farage gets in he’ll take away your right to do that, just like Putin did to his own people in 2022.
