I really don’t like this lumping of all travelers as one group, as per the article. There are many types of traveller who aren’t thieving bastards to trash everything.

In my former line of work I met lots of different traveling types who were kind, gentle, honest hard workers who are responsible for a lot of the large events/festivals many of us enjoy year on year. Their lives are made much harder by groups of twats who also happen to be travelers.

We really need to stop tolerating this behaviour. I wish the government would put their foot down with these criminals.

Our council in Derby decided that appeasement is their best solution and when they turn up, angle grind locks or pull out fences to get on to parks, the council then deliver them fresh water, portaloos and skips for their rubbish. I understand their logic that they hope preventative measures would work ( it still didnt) but then they wonder why they overstay and it takes weeks and court orders to evict them…

I helped get the “travellers” on a static site evicted a couple of years ago in my place

Well over a decade before that I worked for council enforcement and used to have to attend the site, they were fun to deal with

We gave them bins, they threatened the binmen, skips – stolen, repairs, they threatened and attacked the tradesmen, the gypsy liason officer was assaulted and their car trashed

I don’t work enforcement anymore, I work in legal areas so when this council asked me back in, I put my heart and soul into building a case for eviction of every one of them, we used all the violence, fly tipping, dog fighting, horse killing and other anti social behaviour to secure a full site eviction

The most surprising thing was sitting down with the housing chiefs and asking why they didn’t just treat them like any of their other residents that would be evicted much sooner

They were so hard wired that “there’s nothing we can do” that they couldn’t see how simple it was to take action with the litany of violence they had against all the families

It just needed one person with a “fuck em” attitude and I was their huckleberry

Took about 6 months of court but off they finally fucking popped

My only annoyance is there are about 4 people in my town that know it was me that had them turfed out, as its the greatest thing I’ve done for my gaff

I know I’d drink for free for life in the adjoining village but I can’t tell anyone for obvious reasons

Still fills me with a warm fuzzy feeling everytime I see one of these stories

Absolute shocker but what are the odds that the waste is domestic from people who aren’t prepared to pay for proper waste handling company and will happily go for the person advertising on facebook prepared to do for £50 or something?

Does the council offer them bin collections and access to the booking system for the local tip?

They always like to make out that they’re victims of persecution and racism. But no one hates gypsies because of their race, it’s because of how they act. Wherever they are crime and vandalism are sure to follow, and when they do move on they leave a mess like this.

Living like that is simply not compatible with modern society. The police continually fail to do anything about them either, presumably for fear of being called “racists”.

I honestly think the solution has to be splitting traveller communities up and forcing them into council housing at polar ends of the country, and banning them for life from driving. Their way of life – by which I mean using communal and private property as their own and terrorising local communities – is fundamentally incompatible with the rest of society.
