Interesting that *this* is the tipping point for that dead-eyed little freak Streeting.
“They arrested him for inciting violence against trans people? Clearly they’re overstepping their bounds and we need to investigate.”
Not the worst test case.
He’s indisputably a vile person and he’s probably going down for other stuff anyway. His views are beyond reason so none of that needs engaging with.
My initial thought is that yes he’s inciting violence and that’s quite reasonably criminalised.
Though if applied consistently we’d also need to charge an awful lot of people. Eg that Bob Vylan guy at glasto. What about cheering Ukrianians killing russians what about colequeal things sucks as “heads will roll”.
Like where specificly is the line where stuff becomes too abstract to action?
Lineham almost certainly crossed it, more clarity on this is good for society though.
Wes is a shifty arse, GL was rightly banned from X and arrested as his tweet was a call for violence. This isn’t tricky.
God can Wes go for a day without managing to get up another odious cunts arsehole.
If your not a times opinion writer or terminally online no one cares about glinner.
Police get a report of someone with a call to violence. Police step in. it won’t go to court, just a ” stop encouraging violence on Twitter” warning. Done, barely newsworthy.
Does the UK have the right attitude on people using social media who encourage violence? Probs not. But glinners no martyr and Wes stepping in to now make it a full week of obvious bullshit to insinuate that weirdos on Twitter are a protected class is just gonna end up dumb.
This story is on the front page of five national newspapers this morning. Feels like a watershed moment.
Seems inappropriate for a government minister to be commenting when we don’t know exactly what it is Linehan was arrested for yet, or what (if anything) he is charged with. What happened to not commenting on individual cases, or in the early stages of an investigation?
Of course police need to get the balance right, but with crimes like incitement or harassment (which seems most likely issues here), is is hard to do that. If Streeting is concerned, then as a legislator he could look at clarifying or redefining the laws in question, rather than casting doubt on the police decision when we don’t really have anything much to go on.
I would very much like not to have to see this odious troll’s face ever again. This whole thing is giving him (and his hateful cause) so much more attention than he deserves. I wonder if Rowling has sent him a wad of cash to pay his legal fees yet.
It’s not just the police, it’s the law itself which needs to change.
Because of course he does. The Tory party is over there Wes…
Someone gets arrested for wearing a ‘Plasticine Action’ t-shirt: fine
Someone gets arrested for advocating violence against trans people: whoa there
It took me ages to actually find an article that actually had the tweets quoted
From the BBC article: “The first post, from his X feed, called it a “violent, abusive act” for a trans-identified male to be in a female-only space. He suggested: “Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails punch him in the balls”

It’s a shitty thing to say, it’s what looks like a attempt at a terrible joke (from a man who wrote some of the best comedies of the early 2000’s I might add, what the hell happened?? Just not even slightly funny)
But is that REALLY an incitement to violence?? Does anyone honestly think somebody is going to read that tweet and go on some kind of cock knocking rampage??
What a shame that this vicious fucking bully is getting to present himself as some “free speech” martyr when he was pretty directly inciting violence. And much of our media willingly goes along with it.
