There has to be some way of keeping track of children, especially ones that were considered vulnerable enough at one stage to be referred to TULSA. If receiving children’s allowance, a form has to be filled in every so often stating where the child goes to school or creche and if the parents are from overseas it’s checked more often. Surely, in this day and age there has to be a system where a child registered in Ireland but parents not receiving allowances would be flagged?

Who brought this to their attention? Why now?
So a child spends a year in Tusla care because his parents dont want him and they close the case after he goes home?? How in God’s name do they not feel it necessary to check in regularly on this child until he is 18?? If a childs family circumstances are so bad that they’re taken into care, even if the parents turn things around the chances are still much higher than average that there will be more issues in future.
It’s so grim, unfortunately. Another child is presumed dead.
TUSLA didnt even notice the child had disappeared and it was the Department of Social Protection who brought it to TUSLA’s attention when an application was made to continue children’s allowance and there was no record of the child being in school etc to support the application.
So basically if no application was made no one would notice that a child had disappeared in this country. How is this even possible for any child let alone one that was already on TUSLA’s radar. Has anyone ever done a reconciliation for children on the birth register vs children in the education system etc. Surely it wouldn’t be that hard to compare the databases especially with PPS numbers. If it is a small list of differences then it won’t take long to follow up on each case. If it is a huge list of unaccounted for children then we are looking at a national scandal and whatever resources are necessary need to be put into following up on the list.

Says a lot in this country when it’s very unlikely even to get full development checks from a public health nurse, preschool is not mandatory either. So no one really would have noticed outside of the family
So basically, if it wasn’t for Child benefit, nobody would be non the wiser. I personally find that horrifying. To think the changes to the CB system to prove a child was living in the state was to stop fraud, not murder.
Photos of the parents are doing the rounds locally this morning (no, I won’t post them or forward them via DM).
I get the impression that the Gardaí have most of the picture at this stage. The site they’re excavating wouldn’t have been an obvious place to search based on the address the family are reported to have lived in so they’ve obviously received some details.

We need to demand a public enquiry into Túsla. Whose fault is it that this situation was allowed to happen? And happen again?
What the actual fuck is wrong with the apparatuses of the state? We can’t do fucking anything right. We can’t build a hospital, we can’t lay fucking tracks, we can’t build houses.
