Debacle. Good word for it. That said, the AFU did an absolutely fantastic job dealing with the great summer push.

    2. We really needed yet another failed Russian summer offensive to shatter that?

While true, not sure if burying your head in the sand helps: their offense pushed the frontlines while Ukraine doesn’t seem to be able to gain significant ground in a long time. Sure, with major costs but Russia doesn’t care about lives lost…

The reality is that we don’t see orcs crashing and running out of ammo. Ukraine needs a huge increase in support to be able to gain back their land and really win this war. Keeping the status quo is losing innocent lives everyday.

Russian victory has been very far away ever since the 3 day special operation didnt acomplish its goal.

I see a lot of pro-Putin shills claiming that Russia is currently winning, so Ukraine should hurry up and accept whatever terms Russia will let them have. That is so crazy if you actually look at the state of the conflict. Its a stalemate where Russia has a very slight advantage in certain areas, but Ukraine actually leads in others. Unfortunatly there are also quite a few wellmeaning people who swallow this claim raw and think that they are doing Ukraine a favor by calling on them to sue for peace at any cost.

Lets make sure we continue to inform those who are well-meaning, but poorly informed, that Russia’s current situation is nothing close to what a victory looks like. Russia is taking very small amounts of land at an incredibly high cost, which is not how wars are won. Ukraine is striking back in increasingly innovative and powerful ways, currently with a very effective campaign on Russias ability to refine oil. Now, Ukraine is not exactly close to anything that looks like a victory, but that doesnt mean Russia is. Thats the very definition of a stalemate.
