Well that’s a cool map. I wonder how well the trends have held over time; the Peloponnese is far more sparsely inhabited than its history would suggest.
I’m always fascinated by the fact, that there is Athens, North Athens, West Athens, Central Athens and South Athens, while for population measures, only Athens is counted in most cases.
The Athens urban area has a population of 3 million inhabitants across 400 km², while only a bunch of cities in the European Union reach the threshold of 3 million inhabitants across 400 km². The City of Milan has 1.37 million people across 182 km², so Milan is unlikely to reach 3 million people with suburbs included across 400 km².
I’m pretty sure, that only Madrid, Barcelona and Paris are contenders for Athens. The Metropolitan City of Naples only has 2.96 million people across 1,170 km². Meanwhile, Berlin’s population density falls off pretty fast behind the Ringbahn.
No shit. Have you seen Greece? It is all mountain
Literally every central european/ balkan country is like big capital + few village towns. Some of this countries are basically city states with a backyard
Mountains baby….
Athens ❤️
Greece still applying city state concept is beautiful 🌈
