DKK already is pegged to the euro, so they get the worst of both worlds at the moment. The status quo makes no sense for anyone except sentimental nationalist populists.

Without any EU reforms adopting the euro is a high-risk move. Denmark has a good economy and it is unclear what advantages it would get from this adoption.

Hell no. The essence of state power and sovereignty is currency and monetary policy.

I will never vote to transform our central bank to a currency board and send monetary policy to Frankfurt. Love the EU but the Euro can get fucked.

And no, currency peg is not the same as currency union.

      Absolutely. Not.

Let’s have the option to keep monetary autonomy just in case the heads in Brussels gets some wild ideas.

Besides we often perform above the average in the EU economically, there’s absolutely no good enough reason to switch.

We already de facto have the Euro, so we might as well switch.

I don’t understand the Danes here saying that adopting the euro would be bad.

Wasn’t it Denmark that in 2020 had to spend 40 billion euros and put its interest rate into negative territory because the currency soared against the euro?

It would also finally eliminate exchange rate costs, they would have a say in the monetary policy they now have to follow due to the peg, they would have access to a MUCH larger financial market and a central bank with MUCH greater financing capacity and they would have a reserve currency

      His argument is valid.

We (Denmark) have the Krone locked to the Euro already, so we have to follow the the policies of the European Central Bank (ECB), but we don’t have any influence over those policies since we’re not part of the Euro.

If we switched to the Euro, we would get a say in said policies.

    8. At this point, I am convinced that the only purpose of the continued existence if the krone is to annoy tourists.
