In the past few weeks we helped hundreds of new recruits get some needed supplies. Ukraine needs soldiers and many arriving to help are from Latin America. They have volunteered and flown thousands of miles from home to come. There are some unique challenges they face.

Are international soldiers in Ukraine paid? Yes they are, however just like with any other job it can take some time before they get their first paycheck. They need to arrive in the country, sign with a unit, and go to training. During training they do not receive combat pay; pay is often around $500 a month.

Every soldier who arrives has expenses. They are provided the basics but other things must come from their own pockets. If they need mosquito spray, rain gear, foot powder, wet wipes, hand/foot warmers, hygiene items, vitamins, etc then they buy those themselves. This isn’t a huge amount of money. However if you are coming from South America and you have not been paid yet, then it may feel like a huge amount of money.

These supplies are basic but essential for them to function. They must stay clean, hydrated, and protected from mosquitoes, sun, and cold.

We have a request to help 25 new recruits get foot powder, wet wipes, extra drinking water, and vitamins. Foot powder is 72 cents in Ukraine. Wet wipes are about $1 a pack. A one month supply of vitamins is about $10. Water is about $1 for a 5 liter jug.
