You’ll have to add on the silly tourist tax the fat orange bastard introduced

Myself and the new wife were thinking of going in 2026 for a honeymoon but that has become insanely unappearling over the last year. Anecdotally, I’ve spoken to a few people in a similar position.

Demand must be down, what with the prospect of border security going through your phone to find a reason to send you home. It’s a huge turn off. There are plenty other places to go.

Meh, still not appealing. The thought of US airports, tipping culture, price of beer and so on is really off putting.

    5. Dependent-Tax3669 on

Not a place to go if you can avoid it for the next few years. Holidays are expensive enough without the added worry

    6. Acceptable-Book-1417 on

I’d say flights to nazi Germany were cheap in 1942 also

hang out with national guard in LA or Washington, feel the glare of masked ice agents or why not take a trip to vaccine free florida!

“Please, come and visit ze fatherland, ja? We have cheap flights, bad beer und Lebensraum!”

      Not if I was paid.

Got return flights to NY for Oct (booked today) for 378. Unbelievable value (until I get there 😂)

No thanks, unless maybe they’re including Canada in the deal.

Yeah typically authoritarian shitshows arent the most popular holiday destinations

    12. Make sure you delete any derogatory memes or jokes about Drumpf from your social media accounts for you are now entering 1930’s Berlin

    13. Soft-Affect-8327 on

That’s just the sticker sale price. Rare to get it that low.

And anyone telling you it’s different is talking through their arse. I remember seeing sales at 169 for years

Flight demand for the US is up in Ireland and Aer Lingus often has this price. Just before the US hater club will suggest otherwise

    15. susanboylesvajazzle on

The appeal is just not there anymore. From the border/security stuff, to the fractious political culture, the massive price increases (particularly in the prime tourist destination), the near-violent tipping culture, just make it no longer worth the effort.

They could pay me to fly to the US and I would still tell them where they can shove it.

    17. American here. I’d avoid it especially to places like DC, Boston, or Chicago. Things are messed up right now.

    18. Natural-Ad773 on

Yeah it’s a severe issue for Aer Lingus as it’s massively US focused I think they only have one or two destinations long haul to the East.

    19. BlubberyGiraffe on

They could be handing them out and I wouldn’t go.

Company flying everyone over next week to San Francisco as part of some “team building” bullshit self praising nonsense. I’m sure there’ll be some FOMO, but with the state of everything over there at the moment I have zero interest in stepping foot in the place.

I mean, we really should be giving the yanks our money right now, should we?

Better to keep it in the Eurozone 💶🇪🇺

Love NYC but America is off the list for the next long time for me with everything going on.

I work with a lot of Americans and one guy and his family are worried for his sister in law who was adopted in America as a baby but is one of the nationalities ICE are focusing on.

There’s now a chance, no matter how slim, she could be nabbed by them and taken away.

It was insane listening to him talk about it and made it very real to me as a non-American when it’s not dressed up in “funny” MAGA buzzwords like Alligator Alcatraz in their attempts to soften what they’re doing to people.

    22. wanklenoodle on

I understand fully why people wouldn’t go but it would be a great opportunity to explore some of the most amazing national parks in the world. Keeps you away from all the negativity in the cities and there are some really kind and lovely people around.

    23. denismcd92 on

I’ve been to America a few times and these prices aren’t mindblowingly low. It’s generally not an expensive place to fly to, the costs are once you arrive

    24. Flights to the US aren’t the expensive part any more. It’s trying to find half decent accommodation for less than 200 quid a night and realising dinner’s gonna set you back at least 60 quid a person plus tips.

And then, you know. The whole goings-on.
