Where are they? And is there any proof of the point of this scheme with respect to new/expanded businesses?

Or is it to quote Chairman Mao “too early to judge”

This is certainly going to go down well with a certain group of people desperately trying to justify violence.

The golden visa scheme is such a scandal waiting to blow up. We sold visas for cheap, didn’t vet the funds of anyone buying them, didn’t verify the investments they were supposedly making. Most of the hospitality investments supposedly made under the scheme never materialised and the companies arranging the investments liquidated with all the money vanishing into thin air.

    5. An important thing to keep in mind is that, legally, Chinese citizens can only convert 50k USD per year from Chinese Renminbi. Even that can be relatively hard to do in actual practice. When I lived in China, I had trouble converting far less to send back to my home country, even though I had all the correct paperwork and proof I had paid taxes on everything in China.

With the Euro generally stronger than the dollar, that means someone Chinese doing this scheme to invest a million euro would have had to max out their legal foreign exchange quota for over 20 years.

Of course, there are other ways to legally have that money. They could’ve made good investments outside of China or started business outside of China. But a lot of very rich people in China use less than legal ways to get their money out of China. And I don’t have a ton of faith that people vetting these applications are well-versed in the nuances of ‘unconventional’ capital outflows from mainland China.

    6. So….like a thousand new Millionaires in Ireland…oh we are going to hear about this come election….
