I’m not sure a lot of people were aware but the UK has some of the safest roads in europe. Our road deaths are shockingly lower than similar countries.

Good article, the roundabout bit is especially tricky stats wise.
They don’t much reduce numbers of collisions but they do massively change the kinds of collisions. Swapping T bone crashes for sideswipes makes it all less deadly

Interesting article, highlighting something the country is good at for once

The thing is, they could still be a lot safer
Especially for cyclists and pedestrians

> If road deaths per mile driven were still as high as in 1950, then the UK would not see 1,700 road deaths per year, but 37,000.
Holy shit. I knew cars were safer now that’s kind of insane how dangerous they were back then.
Also. I am not at all surprised to see Saudi and UAE at the top for roads deaths. People are mad over there.

This has got to be satire. I felt safer driving a moped in Indonesia than navigating over the craters in the UK.

It has a lot to do with the British being competent, safe drivers, am sure many will disagree but in general and compared to most other countries the British are some of the best drivers in the world.

Britain has some of the safest roads in Europe. But this isn’t Britain. This is der Autobahn!

I got my driving license here. Trying to drive afterwards in Greece I could see a marked difference.
Its not perfect but there’s some things, like the roads, bureaucracy (so much can be done online without too much pain) and the public transport that just blow alot of the competition out of the water. Things to be proud of.
