The Hordiienko’s farm base in Beryslav (Kherson region), where machinery, fertilizers, and other property were once stored, was devastated by several russian airstrikes. Drones burned down the house, tractor, and other equipment. Tractor driver Vasyl was killed by an FPV drone strike.

But Hordiienko kept the farming going – trying to tend the land and keep the animals despite the attacks.

“Every trip toward Beryslav is a game with death. No matter what protection you have, they’ll still get you if they want to. Maybe not today, but tomorrow,” says Serhii Mykhaltsev, who assisted Hordiienko.

Then they decided it is time to evacuvate several dozen sheep that had still remained in Beryslav.

“It was no longer possible to keep them there, and the animals were suffering. We decided to take them out. We loaded them onto a truck, and one of us followed behind, covering with electronic warfare. We traveled at night and hit a petal-type anti-personnel mine. The wheels were damaged, but we made it through. The sheep were so exhausted. Now they’ve been sheared, fed a little, and we’re looking after them”
