You know there’s some form of vote coming up whenever she crawls out of her cave

      Please no.

The Iona Institute candidate is everything against what I would want.

Not surprising who has voted for this individual.

Ms. Steen has received the backing of eight TDs and senators publicly, while two will announce their support in the coming days. Those eight Oireachtas members are Peadar Tóibín, Paul Lawless, Mattie McGrath, Joe Conway, Ronan Mullins, Sharon Keogan, Carol Nolan, and Sarah O’Reilly.

10 TDs and senators is about as many as I’d expect, and doubtless wouldn’t be surprised with the names.

So that forces her to seek the local authority nod now, right?

Fuck sake, am I now gonna have to go vote for the less worse person now to try help her not get in.
      What a bunch of dregs.
Hopefully not if that’s as good as she gets meaning she won’t be on the ballot.

      ✅ I campaigned(canvassed with gay friends)for Marriage Equality
      ✅ Voted YES for Pro-Choice
🚨 Criticised MD Higgins as being one of the most obnoxious arrogant presidents ever who’s behaviour and disrespect to the office would come home to roost when future presidents not part of the right-on brigade got in ……

…..Maria Steen is what all the muppets that lapped out Higgins solo run disregard for the Presidential Office deserve. There is a part of the me that would enjoy the pearl clutching if someone like her came to power albeit ceremonial. The other part of me would spend her term gagging…..

Tbf, I’d have been surprised if there wasn’t any Iona-aligned candidate on the ticket. Those weirdos have enough of a niche carved out within the political firmament to secure a nomination.

This is why you vote. Even if it’s begrudgingly for a less-worse option, you vote.

Christ this ( in my head mostly meaningless ) election really bringing the crazies out . Apols if its like an acc important role and not just a glorified ambassadorial position

Oh I’m glad she’s in the vote.

A nice splitting of the right vote with the nutjobs going to her instead of helping out either Humphreys or Gavin.

    10. Maria was one of the most vocal opponents of the two Referendums last year, when the other 3 were backing it/sitting in silence. I’d agree with virtually none of her views but I think it would be good to have her on the ticket.

I’m skeptical of her getting another six nominees though.

She represents a portion of the country. I don’t agree with her views, but honestly, it’s a good thing that we have candidates that are representive of our population. She will take the older FF votes off Gavin.

I’d sooner shit in my hands and clap than vote for someone who campaigned against abortion and same sex marriage. She stands for everything Ireland isn’t and needs to hop back in her time machine and fuck off back to the 50’s.

Its become pretty clear our next president will inspire nothing but mediocrity regardless.

      >Aontú, for example, is backing Steen at local authority level, despite the fact the party does not agree with her opposition to marriage equality or divorce.

I don’t have a problem with councillors who actually agree with a persons views nominating them, its all the councillors nominating people who they and their voters don’t agree with that’s the problem, Councillor Catherine Connolly nominating Dana in 2004 might be the most extreme example of that.

I hope she gets on the ballot. Are we not supposed to be a democractic country? I think she would do a lot better than the demographics here think.

She is a barrister and knows the constitution which already puts her ahead of other candidates. For anyone fair minded, and not part of the npc flock, please ignore labels attempting to discredit (oooh evil Iona association) and actually listen to what she has to say.

Here she is showing her knowledge of the constitution and getting the better of Michael Martin in a family and care referendum debate: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNdbpuRtJ/

A qualified barrister and architect. If you didn’t get the points you needed in the leaving, don’t worry, you could have succeed and still be Maria Steen.
