      Excerpts

      > **Putin’s strategic goal is the destruction of Western unity and the erosion of trust within NATO.**

      > The attack on Poland, a NATO member and close US ally – deliberately planned so that NATO could not respond – fits this goal perfectly. It feeds distrust and strengthens the narrative of a “helpless NATO”.

      > The traditional approaches inherited from Cold War days would encourage NATO to avoid escalation and instead “start a dialogue” with Russia to prevent future incidents. But choosing to go down that route would be a defeat for the Alliance and a victory for Putin.

      > To prevent this, NATO must respond, but asymmetrically and non-militarily.

I think Putin is trying to do something that he should have done 1 or 2 years ago. Many theories are being floated, I find a few of them very credible, except that I really feel NATO is not falling for it.

You must understand that pure non-narcistic psychopathy as actually an anxiety condition. When lacking the power they need to play their games with their victims, they are prone to act too slowly. Putin is desperately executing a plan he conceived long ago, not accepting it is likely too late now.

Whatever NATO does, it must **hold onto the initiative and prevent chaos**. Holding the initiative causes Putin fear and stress, while chaos would give him power over the situation.

He’s throwing pebbles at NATO whilst we have a boulder to hit him with, arm Ukraine to the goddamn teeth and allow them to hit anything they want with long range western weapons. Shaheds into NATO territory? Ok, how about a fucking tomahawk on factories in Moscow.

Russia is slowly dying: Like, no progress, citizens start to feel the pain, going to blame Putin etc…
So he’s doing a move (let’s call it a “Trumpian”) to create a distraction. By provoking a defense action he’s likely able to gather more troops, use other missiles, etc.. anything to appease the crowd and eventually an excuse why Russia will be in rubbles: “*It’s them in the West*”.

What should we EU/NATO do: Recreate or manufacture Ukraine’s (or invent our own) means to shoot down these “wandering” drones to protect the EU/NATO. It’s the most logical next step (or excuse) while not giving Russia any wicked excuse (or retaliatory action). For what Russia is concerned it could be part of the ‘agreed’ security guarantee to station some (or a lot) in Ukraine.

I wasn’t following this but I assumed their objective was to take advantage of a more relaxed border situation at the Poland-Ukraine border? I mean, sure they could be testing Polands defences, but the simplest explanation makes sense too.

Their goal is to scare other European countries enough that they hold back some weapons destined for Ukraine for their own defense.

They allow Putin to do as he pleases without consequences and how does that work out?

The bigger picture is missing. It’s not to check for reactions, I reckon. It’s to make e.g Poland nervous, making them allocate military hardware to Poland and not Ukraine, weakening Ukraine.

Rather than blow up a few, say, missile installations, Russia has, potentially, prevented many missile installations from reaching Ukraine, because they now stay in the country of the donor

If there is a threat of invasion, no

    9. They didn’t attack Poland. They have been sending drones through regularly. Obviously the Poles got sick of it. I think they haven’t been shooting them down befote partly because thats actually more dangerous with falling debris. NATO will respond by beefing up Polands air defence probably.

    10. NATO and Poland specifically is sending Ukraine aid. So why send drones to fly around inside Poland?

Imagine Poland has $10 to spend on defense. $2 of those dollars go to Ukraine. $8 go to polish domestic defense.

Russia sends drones into polish airspace. Poland gets anxious.

Poland invests more in protecting Poland. Ukraine no longer gets $2. They get $1. The other dollar goes into domestic polish defense. Russia then battles a slightly weaker Ukraine while a nato economy is focused on other things Ukraine might not need.

      For Putin. Win win.

I heard that most of them didn’t have an explosive charge. They are definitely testing nato

First, it obviously wasn’t an attack. It was a relatively cheap (and deniable) probing exercise for Russia. Poland and nearby allies acted immediately and effectively, giving the Russians plenty of information about how a response to an actual attack might play out. It also gave a clear political indicator of who would be an immediate threat in those circumstances and who would not (Krasnov, of course).

The correct course of action was invoking Article 4, allowing for a greater focus and deployment of resources to NATO borders.

Russia / Putin said “NATO is useless and Donald is my friend and he can’t do anything because DJT is SOFT!”
