No way, are you telling me the treasury’s tactic of softly leaking every possible policy they can think of months in advance of the very late “autumn” statement is actually having a negative effect on the economy?

Wouldn’t landlords just pass on those tax costs to their renters anyway?

Yes, Rachel Reeve’s House Flipper’s benefits package has made people worried about buying a house for their family; paying stamp duty, and then still having to pay yearly tax. It’s a punishment for millennials, who have saved up for years and have only just been able to buy, and it’s a punishment for Londoners, as it’s very difficult to buy somewhere in London for below the cap. It’s just disgusting.
(N.B. for explanation: this benefits house flippers, because they now only have to pay 12 months of yearly taxes rather than full stamp duty, and it punishes people who want stability in their lives and settle down to start a family)

We want move just slightly closer to our childrens senior school. Same sort of price bracket. We haven’t moved for well over a decade.
£15k tax to move to the same sized house in the same area? No thanks!

Wasn’t this only going to affect houses over £1m? How many Brits are eyeing up houses that expensive?

Yes. That’s why we’re not buying houses. Nothing to do with being priced out of the market or anything like that
