Peter Kyle more worried about imaginary VPN paedophiles than actual ones it seems. Labour have managed to hit all the squares in a row on the irony bingo card the last two weeks.
Ultimately Mandelson had just one job – get along with Trump. And from that frame of reference he admittedly was the most qualified candidate.
He wasn’t selected despite his links to the mega rich, he was selected *because* of them.
I made the point about his Epstein connections when he was appointed and the Guardian repeatedly deleted all comments about it. Guess it’s ok to talk about now.

Surely we have plenty of talented and skilled people who could have performed this role?
We’re talking as if it was just him and another guy who would have met the criteria. He had connections to an incredibly shady and corrupt person and shouldn’t have been considered from a moral standpoint alone.
This is a genuine question, was he worth the risk? What would we have got if he hadn’t been there?
How will the conversation go with Trump this week? Everyone going nuts at an ex-US ambassador for something that MAGA think is a non-story. How can a Prime Minister look Trump in the eye and explain that Mandy was sacked for colluding with a trafficker and sex offender, when Trump had exactly the same relationship with the same nonce?
What’s quite funny was Mandelson hasn’t done much wrong in the position (other than the cringey arse licking). He’s paying the price for a bad decision that Starmer and team made.
The framing of this is all wrong. Mandelson and McSweeney control the Labour Party and Petey was given the job of ambassador because *he* wanted it. He’s always loved swanning around with the ‘upper’ class

Apparently Mandelson replaced a very popular and well liked Ambassador who was well liked and respected even by Trump himself. Maybe she didn’t want to stay on but it seems to me that Starmer was desperate to employ somebody with a very shady past and who even MI6 had concerns about. I do wonder what Mandelson has on Starmer.

What exactly did appointing this associate of a known child sex trafficker achieve? it was always nudge-nudge and clearly designed to provoke Trump by making it very obvious we know what they were all up to.
