      How nice of them. If it’s not above a populated area and you can safely shoot it down, why would you even wait? To let it go deeper into your airspace and increase the danger to your own civilians? Or to give it a chance to politely turn around and “just” kill Ukrainian civilians instead?

      Super frustrating how we’re doing the “frog in a pot” method of inching towards a larger war by always allowing Russia to act without fear of reprisal. Assassinations of other nations territory, cyber attacks, and now drone incursions.

      Shoot the drones down. What is Russia going to say? “Why did you shoot down drones in your own airspace?”

      That’s so embarrassing. SHOOT THEM DOWN. It’s literally free target practice. ‘But… but…. what if the debris causes an injury!’ – What if the drone causes an injury while you’re giving it a free escort. Shoot. Them. DOWN.

      so it’s okay for foreign nations to fly their military aircrafts into romanian airspace if they just leave again?

      If we continue see no NATO reaction we soon will see more and more drones and rockets over EU. Eventually russians will understand see it as weakness and will attack and world will go into WW3.

      I believe that’s more for “internal consumption”. We just passed the law that allows the army to shoot them down during peace time, however the law does not include the regulations regarding “how to” as far as I understand. The president will have in the upcoming days a meeting in CSAT (Supreme defence council) in which this should be sorted.

      However this is not an excuse for them dragging their feet.

      They should have started to shoot them down when we had the first incursions few months ago. Now we are only getting more spotlight due to violation in Poland to be honest, but if I recall correctly this is 3rd or 4th time when they get in Romania.

      When I was in the navy I worked as a fire control radar operator. The radar was able to track a target, provide a fire control solution for the main gun using heading and speed and also accounted for the ship bouncing in waves using a very big (and deadly) gyroscope.

      An operator was in the director (the radar itself on top of ship) and could visually see the target.

      This was critical because they had to assure we were locked onto the dummy target and not the jet towing it. We verified it several times. Then and only then could we activate the guns fire control (this allowed the operator to shoot a 5” projectile at the dummy target)

      In the event we accidentally aimed at the jet heads would roll. Probably the CO and weapons dept lieutenant.

      In this case Romania faced something more sinister. A rogue weapon over their territory. Russia MUST control its weapons. Romania should have acted. We are sucking at messaging and need to be less wimpy.

      Assuming Russia actually watches where the f its drones are going this seems hard to imagine was accidental

      They should really be flying interception missions over Western Ukraine. Cheap combat practice. Normally these countries would be spending money on drone targets to train pilots.

      Once it enters Romanian airspace it becomes a valid target regardless where it goes. Canada chased a Spanish fishing trawler half way across the Atantic and seized the ship.
