    1. That’s quite a niche thing to ban people from being and a knee-jerk reaction to recent controversies – not to mention difficult to keep track of and enforce

I mean… if they have spouse or family members then it can be rigged. Buts its a good thought.

    3. It would be a step in the right direction but there need to be overall drastic reforms on what MP’s can and can’t do and can and can’t be. It is downright silly that we allow non-citizens to vote, let alone become a member of parliament in this country and that needs to change as well.

IMO all MPs should be banned from any income other than their salary. They should be intelligible for any work not related to their job.

No newspapers, no TV, no Radio, they should have to put their businesses in a trust, and be subjected to regular audits to make sure their finances are in order and they aren’t cheating.

In return, they should get a big fat pay bump, so that their salaries are more competitive and will attract better talent. I’d also give them access to a big dorm they can stay in while working in London for no extra charge, removing the need for a second home.

Yeah. Then ban everyone else! Evil way of making a living

So their spouses can? Their families? Doesn’t really seem like it’ll work practically and won’t help much. Just a knee jerk reaction that’ll be rejected.

We need better MPs. Adding unnecessary restrictions to MPs is just going to push away successful people.

Pure political theatre, something that will never happen, and even removing that barrier, is putting the cart before the horse.

Landlords are a problem because we aren’t building anywhere near enough. If we did, the incentive to be one would weaken and many would sell their ‘investment’.

The left needs proactive policy, not reactive. It needs expansive policy, not restrictive.

This is policy that is meant to elicit one feeling, spite. It is also impotent.

The allure of a new left party is supposed to be an ungagged expression of actual left policy. All as have had so part is the expression of just to what degree the left is totally in the wilderness again.

This isn’t policy. It’s saying you’d tell ‘elites’ off. It’s also misdirection given it relies entirely on something that’ll never happen. Waste of time and breath. Will these people ever try to inspire?

Excellent policy. No wonder the establishment are so hostile to her.

This is a perfectly sensible and rational statement.

So naturally she’ll be attacked by the free speech warriors who believe all speech should be protected, except for speech they don’t agree with

    11. BecomingABetterDude on

Well really if you are an MP, you shouldn’t be having multiple jobs, and I’d say being a landlord is a secondary job

    12. Hitching-galaxy on

      Great idea.

Or, if they are landlords, they should not be allowed to vote a for something in their own interests (ie, against renters bill etc)

    13. Pandita666 on

What about all the other stuff they can do? If they are barred from being landlords they should be from any other form of money making outside their salary. Osborne was editor of a fucking newspaper in a different city!

    14. andrew0256 on

She’s being a bit selective. I assume she would have no problem with them being lawyers, doctors, journalists, or general business people, but because they’re evil landlords they should be barred.

There is a good argument to be made for banning MPs from second jobs, although their pay would have to rise considerably if you want a full range of talented people in Parliament.

    15. V sensible. But her fellow Your Party/independent group MP Adnan Hussain is a landlord so she’s slamming her own party as much as she is her ex party.

Should convert one of the tower blocks in London just for
MP’s to live in only for their time in office once there de selected their out

No referb for 20 years or more.

all expenses go through and independent none related party company.

Any expense over 250 to be pre authorised by 3 independent individuals

All tickets and travel bought from the public sector

Zero involvement in any other company or backhanded payment instant sacking and criminal proceedings

Good policy on paper. Generally for all income. I fear it’ll be maligned or poorly implemented. Though no Corbyn party is getting to sniff at power anyway.
