It beggars belief that any trust was ever put in Mandelson after the financial dodgy-business that got him fired multiple times in the 2000s. Properties, yachts, pension manipulation…. he has always been grimy.
I guess it was an attempt to fight fire with fire.
It amazes me that they guy was consistently allowed back into government, he must have dirt on a lot of people.
There is a very real risk here of witch-hunts against innocent people who happened to once know guilty ones. Once the post conviction email from Mandelson to Epstein lamenting his conviction emerged, yes it was absolutely right to fire him. But before that, all that was known was a birthday card type message. Hasn’t everyone at some point in their lives known someone that turned out to be guilty? Hasn’t everyone at some point said or written something to such a person, long before they knew what they were like, that would look unfortunate if taken out of context?
I have every sympathy for Victoria Giuffre’s family at their awful loss of such a young woman. But we need to be careful about witch-hunts against innocent people that simply didn’t know.
