To treat a layer of algae, use physical removal by scrubbing and siphoning, followed by chemical treatment such as a chlorine shock, algaecide, or a natural alternative like vinegar or baking soda, depending on the affected surface. After treatment, address the cause, like improving filtration, balancing water chemistry, reducing nutrients, or improving drainage to prevent future growth. For Swimming Pools

**Physical Removal:**Manually scrub the algae from the pool surfaces with a brush and then vacuum the dislodged algae to the filter. 

**Balance Water Chemistry:**Test and balance your pool water, as proper chemical balance helps prevent algae growth.

 **Shock the Pool:**Apply a concentrated chlorine shock treatment to kill any remaining algae. 

**Use Clarifier:**Add a clarifier to help the dead algae clump together and be filtered out of the water. 

**Clean the Filter:**Thoroughly clean the pool filter to ensure it can effectively remove the dead algae. 

For Ponds and Water Features:

 **Manual Removal:**Use a net, rake, or brush to physically remove large clumps of algae. 

**Add Beneficial Bacteria:**Introduce beneficial bacteria to help break down organic waste, which reduces the nutrients algae feeds on. 

 **Consider Algaecide:**Apply an EPA-registered algaecide, but do so as a spot treatment to avoid an oxygen crash. 

**Install a UV Clarifier:**An UltraKlear UV clarifier can eliminate single-celled algae as the water passes through it.

**Address Nutrient Levels:**Reduce the amount of nutrients entering the pond by reducing feeding, controlling runoff, or using a phosphate remover. 

For Tiled Floors and Concrete:

**Apply a Natural Solution:**Mix baking soda with water to form a thick paste and apply it to the algae for 15-20 minutes before scrubbing.

 **Use Vinegar:**Spray a diluted solution of white vinegar onto the algae-infested area to dissolve it. 

 **Scrub and Rinse:**After allowing the solution to sit, scrub the area with a brush or sponge and rinse it thoroughly with water. 

For Lawns: 

**Skim and Rake:** Remove surface algae growth from the lawn using a spade or by raking.

**Improve Drainage:** Address any underlying drainage issues, as inadequate drainage is a common cause of algae returning to lawns.

Sad thing is, my neighbour who works for the water board even said its not going to be repaired in our life time.
