Keir Starmer must make the “populist case” for workers’ rights reforms, unions have said, after a new mega-poll suggested the changes were the most popular of almost all policies but have extremely limited public recognition.

The Employment rights bill will return to the Commons on Monday with a pledge by senior government figures not to water down changes to zero-hours contracts or new rights at work.

My opinion – I think an obvious conclusion is that the Labour team is lagging behind when it comes to messaging/communications.

They have work they could be selling to the public as good policies, like this bill, but they don’t always use the opportunity.

However, the media environment itself is also a problem. News outlets *could* choose to report on certain things, many of them don’t if it doesn’t serve an agenda.

The BBC is fairly neutral, just because the facts don’t suit your mind set it doesn’t mean they are biased. Left wingers complaining they lean right, right wingers complain they lean left. As long as both complain it means they are fairly neutral.

There are also a number of left wing news outlets that love Labour. They just seem to be forgotten and the focus gets put on the right wing ones. Then the claim of media bias gets rolled out. There has always been left leaning news outlets and right leaning ones. The guardian, independent, daily mail and the BBC will all present the same political story differently especially if spin can be put on it.
