      FAFO.

If you go to another country, respect the law, respect the culture and behave.

Britain is the Florida of Europe. Who in their right mind would willingly go swimming in that canal?!

    3. serpenta on

Do people having a bath in the canals know that they second as Venice’s sewer system?

    4. MethylphenidateMan on

The photo clearly shows them surfing, not swimming, but I would actually be strongly against a law against swimming in the canals on principle because in Venice that’s like preventing someone from setting foot on a road. Like of course in 99,999% of cases you’d rather use a bride, but I am fundamentally opposed to restricting people’s movement across public space.

    5. The article states the girlfriend is Romanian. Just saying…

Oh come on, maybe it was their first bath this summer.

I fell in those canals as a kid, while on vacation in Italy.

Weeks passed before I felt clean again. To willingly go in them? Geez.

    8. BarrierX on

There must be something valuable in those canals if they don’t want you swimming in them! Everyone jump in!

I would no sooner swim in the Canal in Venice, then walk around if I was Jeff Bezos

I was hoping Brexit would make all the annoying British tourists stay in their own country

That is annunnecessarily cruel punishment, isn’t it? To willingly swim in those canals already shows they must be mentally challenged. /s

But on a serious note, besides them taking a risk getting nasty infections. The complete disregard of other peoples safety (moving boats etc) and disrespect of the local community always disgusts me.

So many tourists travelling to Amsterdam also treat the city like a tourist attraction. They piss everywhere, are rude to the police and treat the prostitutes in the red light district as objects for their entertainment…

Something tells me it was for their own safety. Like how you have to ban children from entering daddy’s tool shed.

    13. Tardislass on

That is so nasty. Like swimming in the East River of NY.🤮

    14. And then people act surprised when they see “tourists go home” graffiti or even outraged and turn the question upside down by claiming that Venetians/Barcelonians/insert big tourist destination should only be so lucky to receive their tourist money and be content with whatever they get.

Being a tourist is not a right. It’s a privilege, so you should act respectfully or else be prepared to stay home.

    15. Forever_Playful on

What means “banned” in this context? And how can that be enforced?

    16. British you say? My god I don’t believe it, this must be an isolated incident, cheers from Spain.

I think an appropriate punishment would be deleting the social media profiles where they showcase these ‘stunts.’

    18. Pogopoggers69 on

I feel like you have a deathwish if you swim in urban bodies of water…
