Tax me I don’t care. I love wafting in my land-yacht. Speaking of boats, I know ways the govt could save a few bn as well.
They better not come after my SUV.
I hope they do it, and we less of these stupid massive obnoxious vehicles on the road.
The only reason we have them is because everyone else has them. Bring back estate cars.
Happy to see increased taxes on new SUV sales but I wouldn’t support raising taxes on people who already have them as it would hit people who cannot afford to change cars, SUVs are not all luxury cars.
It seems a huge number of new cars these days are SUVs so there’s becoming increasingly little choice even for people who don’t want them. Increasing taxes on new SUVs will encourage people to choose other options and within 10 years or so the number of them on the roads will reduce massively.
Nothing screams self centered and brain dead like an SUV. They shouldn’t even be legal.
When did we start calling everything bigger than a car an SUV? The term originated in the US and should stay there!
Sounds good, I wish something could also be done for the headlights too.
Driving a “normal” car at night is becoming a pain in the ass with these lighthouses on wheels, it seems some people orientate themselves using the top of the trees by how high they keep their lights…
Would likely kill off one of the UKs biggest employers, and most of their supply chain – many tens of thousands of high paying jobs.
We are an ancient country with tiny roads. The less we have of large vehicles that 99% of people do not need, the better.
Oh bugger off with your studies. Tax the Ford Ranger type, agricultural vehicles.
I don’t have one but don’t agree with the tax everything culture because we don’t like it. 🤮
They already tax more for cars over £40K.
[Tax cars based on the pollution they create.](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/sep/01/suv-conquered-america-climate-change-emissions)
>Each year, SUVs belch out 700 megatonnes of CO2, about the entire output of the UK and Netherlands combined. If all SUV drivers banded together to form their own country, it would rank as the seventh largest emitter in the world.
Taxing pickup trucks I understand, SUVs are a stretch
The amount of VED payable per annum on SUVs should be 1/5 of the initial purchase value of the vehicle.
