As usual, leadership fucks up, the workers get fucked. Execs get out with nice golden parachutes.

Or you know it is because Ford electric ain’t selling. If the wider Europe is in any way shape or form like the Danish car market, there has only been one winner since tesla took a nose dive, VW/Skoda’s electric cars.

    3. IvanStarokapustin on

Could also be because Ford cars are lousy and they don’t really care about EV’s since their big market is Trumpland.

    4. No surprise, at the current times american products are somewhat a red flag.

Or maybe its because Ford Cars are just not good right now

Big yikes! Job cuts are never good news, but it’s the harsh truth that tech shifts can make or break industries. 🤔 Electric has gotta pick up speed in Europe, or we’ll see more headlines like this. Sustainability needs support, both from consumers and gov policies!

    7. Ford’s cheapest EV was somewhere in the £34,000 range last time I looked.

And they thought reinventing the Capri (The Capri! Of all cars! Derek Trotter’s of the world unite!) was a good strategy.

Honestly…. for an EV, I wouldn’t look at Ford and yet all my previous cars (with the exception of one Fiat Panda) were Fords, and I grew up in a town with a Ford factory in it.

They’ve just half-arsed their offerings to try to put people off, knowing that they need to make the most of their ICE production tooling, patents and skills before they’re forced to lose those forever. They really are just pretending in the hopes of getting grants or “trade-in” schemes or whatever from the government, rather than making a sensibly-priced EV.

I was *nearly* considering getting the Mustang Mach-E when my Mondeo (Fusion in the US) dies, because it honestly wasn’t that much more expensive than their cheapest EV… but I can spend 2/3rds of the cost and find a much nicer MG, Dacia, or other brand EV without even having to do anything but look at their websites.

Honestly… car manufacturers are just hanging on and taking the piss hoping that they can kill the transition to EV sufficiently to wring every penny they can out of ICE.

Governments pushing back the transition dates will just encourage them, and I guarantee if those dates stay in force, they will all mysteriously suddenly have cheaper EV models to compete with each other on day one.

They did try to do some deals with explorer and Capri with really good entry level prices. But then you look closer and at least in Austria they manage to offer the bigger battery only with higher trim and then have pretty shitty financing conditons and suddenly they are exactly where all others are.

Have they tried selling affordable electric cars? Because I’m not willing to drop 50k for a toaster on wheels ( no offense, I have nothing against EVs )

Ford can’t do anything right other than pick up trucks

The only ford I’m looking at is the e-transit for a campervan conversion

So killing the Fiesta and the Focus was a great idea /s

Here everyone is rushing to buy Chinese (often rubbish) EVs (and sometimes even ICE cars, like MGs). Prices are really low but financial services borderline scammy, anyways people run to put deposits and sign contracts. Meanwhile European manufacturers die.

    14. 0-Gravity-72 on

Actually I like the Explorer EV. The price is much lower than the similar VW or Skoda alternatives. I just hope that lowering the production will not slow down the delivery for me. I had the same some years ago with another car

    15. complexpug on

They stopped making cars people wanted to buy so not surprising

    16. the_pianist91 on

There’s simply not enough market and buyers for all these new cars, some makers will lose the competition and finally chase to exist. Most people got other things to prioritise than buying a new car.

    17. Demand for electric cars in Europe doesn’t lag in general. The problem is that Ford doesn’t have a competitive product. Renault have 3 months waiting period for the new 4 and 5. BYD sells like hotcakes and KIA is a popular as ever.

    18. Rally_Sport on

How about you bring back the Focus and make a new RS with hybrid drive train? 🙂

    19. Enough-Ad9590 on

“Because of EV’s”. We see you coming, irresponsible CEO’s…

    20. ThrowFar_Far_Away on

What kind of fucked up forecast did they do? They have increased their sales of electric vehicles in the EU by 223% in the first 6 months of 2025, how is that not enough??

    21. dyingfromtetanus on

A lot of european cities are reducing car lanes, parking spots and overall curtailing driving in favor of multimodal transportation. The benefits are pretty huge so i don’t see them stopping anytime soon.

    22. DIRTYWIZARD_69 on

Ford has truly taken a tumble with their reliability too.

    23. takibumbum on

*as demand for electric *ford* cars in Europe lags forecasts.

      Corrected that for you.

    24. Schwertkeks on

that happens when you discontinue all your popular models without a successor
