I’ve over 10 years no claims, 33yrs old and my insurance is still over €800 a year. It’s a total mafia.

Well of course. It’s all about profit after all. And because it’s mandatory (if you have a car or run a business), what can you do?

No shit Sherlock, my car insurance went up by about 100% since Covid. Home insurance up by 90%. That’s with shopping around.
Absolute con job.

Surely a strong argument for some kind of state insurance provider?
Humble_Ostrich_4610 on
Invite all insurers to a meeting in government buildings, slide draft legislation across the desk entitled “state owned national third party insurance company ” tell them they have 12 months before Government introduce it so private insurers are only left with top up products like comprehensive. Unless they start to actually compete.

We’re in a class war and the government has sided with capital.
We’re not gonna legislate ourselves out of this.
Things are only going to get worse.

They just changed their excuses for increased premiums. My last policy was going up 20%, albeit just €120, when I queried why they said fraudulent claims, when I said I thought that was the whole reason for reducing payments to negate this and then they just started saying it’s also because of inflation and increased costs for parts and labour.
Moved from the country to dublin for work and they wanted to basically double my policy, when I said it was an underground car park in a gated community, they just said they base the premium off the area code and don’t take into consideration anything else, I asked why they even bother to ask about where it’s parked then and they said it doesn’t factor in.
They just make shit up as they need

My home insurance has gone up 200% over 8 years even though I have never needed to make a claim. This year it went up 40% because of the storm earlier in the year, I’m sure if we don’t see any adverse weather effects by next renewal I won’t be seeing a 40% reduction. We really need a state insurance body that doesn’t need to provide a profit to shareholders.

“Accused” Hah! 😏 What a bullshit headline. They are not only failing to reduce premiums they are actively increasing premiums & profiteering and that is not news as we all know. Just renewed in August. Their first offer for renewal was over double last years premium. Driving 29 years & never had a claim or accident. Nothing different from last year to this. Individually we’ve all paid them thousands of euros over the years.
