That number is absurdly large. That would be ~6.5% of the whole GDP. It’s reported by a company trying to sell something, so they overstate the magnitude of the problem and Reuters is naively picking it up.

Yet again some folks from cybersecurity industry try to bump up the sales by spreading fear about the threats posed by modern cyber criminals that are blown out of proportions. I can’t blame them though, it’s business as usual and this does seem like an effective marketing campaign. Some clueless director in a big corpo or government will hear this and decide that they will fund something.

And then all these countries and EU want to introduce age checks with ID or biometrics to be stored in secure but certainly hackable databases, creating another Tea app, Googles, PayPals and government organizations leaks (which are supposed to be taken care of better).

If this was true, the would no longer be Germany. In fact, if the numbwr was 10% of that the result still the same. Someone is either mixing numbers or counted it in Turkish Liras.
