Weather is getting sunnier and hotter in the UK, making it a more desirable place to live. Wages here are so low that they might save 50% of employment costs by having facilities in the UK instead of US. While I’m not saying tech employees are always smarter than other industries, they definitely are on the smart side and a lot of them want to get away from the current administration.

I guess nearly 2 decades of wage stagnation has finally made the UK a desirable place to invest.

      >Will the US tech bromance turn around the UK economy?

      Probably not

It’ll probably be a small boost. But we will have moved further into the realm of being a US colony. At some point we just won’t be able to operate without them, and we will be fucked.

The US companies never pay taxes here so they contribute a few jobs for a few people maybe.

I see this as a behind the scenes deal in relation to the Digital Services Tax. Trump hates it, as do all the US tech companies. Any investment in the UK is most likely tied to dropping the tax demands, the UK govt then gets to boast of inward investment while the tech companies themselves get to make more money and tie the govts hands for future tax demands. There’s little to no trickle down for the UK economy other than a few jobs.

On its own no but we have the talent pool and the stable political environment to actually become a leader in AI.

More importantly as we don’t have to follow the EUs ridiculous AI legislation, we have an advantage there.

This won’t happen overnight mind you.

I see plenty of the usual crowd like to paint good news as some distopian nightmare 😄

Any other US Government and I’d be optimistic – but this one? Only takes 1 old man rant for it to fall apart

No. Small boost short term; but medium to long term…their grubby, tax dodgy, anti-competitive bullshit is one of the causes of the mess we are i!

Of course it won’t. It means the USA has got us by the balls and it’s for their benefit. The UK is a US vassal state
