Well he is sitting in a tent near Calais having no doubt paid quite a bit of cash to get to that point, he is hardly likely to tell the Telegraph “you know what I am just going back to Syria”. The idea of the return policy is to prevent people starting the journey at all not make them decide to chuck it all in whilst sitting looking at the channel.

“Buoyed by successful challenges from would-be deportees, several migrants said they were confident they could avoid being removed once they crossed the Channel by following legal advice given to them by British charities working in Calais.
“She’s just talking,” the Syrian father-of-three said. “They say the same things again and again, but it doesn’t change anything. I don’t care what she says. They can’t deport me. I will talk to a lawyer and try to cross again and again. I control myself.”
He’s not wrong, though. If you’re from Syria, you’re less than 1% likely to get deported. The article goes on to show charities are working in Calais to provide legal advice and contact numbers once they reach UK territories to increase their chances of being able to claim asylum.
For the immigration lawyers on here, who claim it’s just a job – this dissociation from the moral implications of enabling this problem to persist, needs to be called out.
We need a change to the legal structures. To make it much more difficult to claim asylum when coming from a safe country like France.
We also need a radical change to Immigration policy, one that is more selective and evidence-based so that Immigration is not simply about numerical figures but ensuring those who are granted indefinite leave to remain are a net benefit on numerous economic and social domains.

> Stop the benefits. Don’t grant right to work. Move migrants out of hotels and into tents (just like Calais). The dream will soon be shattered.
The tents are not part of the official infrastructure of France’s immigration system. They get put in accommodation many miles away but they end up heading to Calais to sleep in tents so they can wait for the traffickers.

Man, they need to just go home, all they’ll find is hate and a system that can’t support them

Then to prison you have to go it can’t be more simple as that if your caught after being deported straight to jail you go. No discussion needed really
He’s shit his bed now and it’s out in the public domain we have to supply the terms to his deportation to protect everyone in the UK
unless we get hard with this kind of behaviour someone will continue to walk over the police and he will come back and eventually be up to no good and possibly kill someone. The government has a duty of care to every person on this island to protect them no matter what their race or nationality and at the moment the population sees that lacking.
we have plenty of Scottish islands we can build a prison there
it’ll give much needed boost to the income of the nearest population, jobs and financial security
We need new prisons anyway so it’s a win win
Iim sure everyone will be willing to chip in in tax a couple of quid a year.
Not against proper legal immigration what so ever
we have a young Iranian working in London who I can rely on, he’s smart has picked up the lingo and job really quick, an asset and wants to be included, he sends money home and one day hopes to return home but he’s also smart enough to know this may never happen.
These are the people we need not just doctors or scientist people that are happy to be included, to be a productive member of society but still keep their identity and culture, it’s not difficult.

I see the Telegraph is still very good at fooling people and working them up into a rage.
