Title is as on the article, not the Reddit suggestion (which says its in Nottingham).

Seems like quite a stupid way of committing fraud, tbh, because it’s trivial to trace.

My friend who I worked with kept doing this over the course of a few weeks. Customer would pay for and receive food, he would then refund the whole lot onto his personal card. Denied it, and all he had to do in his defense was show his bank statements but refused to do so.

I worked for a company that provided card terminals. The most unfortunate incident I heard about was a bar put their terminal into training mode for a weekend (it appears to function as normal but doesn’t take funds, and receipts have *** TRAINING MODE *** on the them). They were trying to find their copies of the receipts and rekey them all as CNP (cardholder not present) transactions.

In another instance a bar worker supposedly put through either a £5k or £10k refund (depending on who told the story in the office) on their own card before doing a runner. I’m shocked the acquirer didn’t catch it, if it was true.

With the Ingenico terminals at the time, they required a supervisor card or code to perform ‘riskier’ activities such as batch, refunds, etc.

If a guy can refund himself 500 quid no issue, why do shops say you need the exact card you purchased the item with to get a refund?
