> A police officer has been found guilty of assault after attacking a 16 year-old boy in custody. PC Sam Clarke of Cheshire Police was handed a guilty verdict following a trial held this week at Sefton Magistrates Court.
> The teenager’s mum, who the ECHO have chosen not to name, said he is a “vulnerable child” with learning difficulties and ADHD who has been caught up in county lines, where illegal drugs are transported from one area to another. When the incident took place, she said her son had been arrested for possession of a bladed article.
> The mum claimed he was in a cell “posing no threat” at Runcorn Custody Suite on Manor Farm Road when he made a homophobic slur against the officer, which prompted PC Clarke to attack him. She only discovered her son had been injured the following day when he appeared in court.
> She told the ECHO: “When I got there, they took me to his cell because he was quite distressed because of his mental health problems and additional needs.
> “When I got to his cell, the first thing that I saw was he had red marks all over his face and his face was swollen. I said, what’s happened to you? And he said, they battered me and. I said, what? And he said to the police, they’ve battered me.
> “I said, have you told anyone? Have you told the sergeant? And he said he told the sergeant who had been on the night before and he told him, ‘it’s your own fault, you should have kept your mouth shut’.
> “So I took my phone out of my pocket to take pictures of his face and the sergeant grabbed me and took my phone off me.
> “I requested the footage (of the incident). I requested an investigation. They made it dead difficult, saying there was no footage. But eventually the footage was found.
> “My son had been sat in the holding cell inside, sat down, handcuffed, his hands were behind his back, and there were three officers sitting outside the cell.
> “He admits that one of the officers had said something to him so he called him a queer, he admits that he did that.
> “Obviously he shouldn’t have done that, but then the officer had ran into the holding cell himself, ragged him off his seat, ragged him outside the cell to the ground, threw him on the floor and smashed his head against the floor.
> “There was a two day trial at Sefton Court. On the footage, there was no audio and he was trying to say like he felt under threat by him.
> “But the other three officers were called as witnesses and each and every one of them begrudgingly admitted that there was no threat from him.
> “He posed no threat. He was a kid with additional needs. And he was saying stupid stuff.”
> The mum feels her son has been failed by the police and other authorities. She said: “He’s not an innocent child, there’s no two ways about it, but he is also a really vulnerable child and he has been failed by every system that’s there to protect him.
> “Regardless of what he’s done, it’s not a valid reason to be assaulted in police custody with your hands behind your back. I have a bit more faith in the system now (after the guilty verdict). It’s quite validating that someone has been held accountable.”
> The mum said her son is currently on remand in custody after being arrested for grievous bodily harm.
> PC Clarke’s sentencing has not taken place yet. The ECHO approached Cheshire Police for a response and asked if PC Clarke would remain in his role as a police officer.
Did the kid say that the copper looked like her lesbian nana?
Well it is definitely wrong for the police to assault (to the point of getting a red face) homophobic, knife carrying drug dealers charged with GBH ….but as an ex-teacher , I can sympathise with the inclination. I am surprised that the mum missed ‘cheeky chappie’ , ‘banter’ and ‘footballer’ on her bingo card though. But it is the job to not let the scrotes wind you up.

Clearly they make the headline as ridiculous as possible just to drive views from places like Reddit.
He’s mouthing off in the cell? Sounds like he’s not a threat, so no need to attack him.

If the kid is in county lines and has learning difficulties he’s probably been groomed and exploited since being a child.
Interesting sympathy for the police officer here.

Years ago this would have been acceptable.
Years ago, bad behaviour was less prolific.
There is a link here, I can’t quite put my finger on it.
>The mum feels her son has been failed by the police and other authorities
No, you have failed him, you brought-up a lad who is involved in drug dealing and carries a weapon around with him. The vast majority of people who have ADHD etc. don’t get involved in stuff like this.

The attack might not be good but it couldve been a learning experience for the little monster in the long run to face some consequences for his actions the mother and her excuses will lead this lad back to the cells
Really depressing how many people seem to think it’s okay for a grown man to beat up a kid, if the kid’s annoying.
I don’t care if he’s a little scrote. If you can’t control your temper on encountering one, then don’t be a fucking copper. It’s a job that by its very nature brings you into contact an excess of them. And it attracts people who, honestly, just get a kick out of bullying others, because they know that when they do, people will focus on the scrotiness of the victim and not the GROWN ARSE FUCKING MAN seeking out opportunities to give someone, anyone, a kicking.
Sounds like he’s a little cunt. Not justifying it, just saying.
People go out of their way to try annoy police now (google police auditor) and they need to be smart enough to not react as that’s what they want. Hope the policeman involved gets a lengthy sentence and loses his job for life.
Great mothering. Quick to want answers about her scrote kid screaming how vulnerable they are but knowing they are involved in county lines. Enjoy the pay out from the police but it won’t clear her as complicit to her son’s behaviour.
Gobby little scroat now has the political correct term as mental health problems….
It’s like this murder documentaries, “he was such a character”, “everyone knew him around here”. Translation N*b head and public nuisance.

Custody sergeant should be a separate service. One in which you cannot have served as police. This particular one should be in more trouble than the officer since he didn’t report the incident.
The kids a cunt, the kids mum is an even bigger cunt, but the officer needs some serious jail time for assaulting a minor.
The child was unarmed and within a controlled environment. If words can cause the officer to react In this way, they deserve to be kept in a cage far away from society.
