Let’s do it properly then. Invest in education and training in disadvantaged areas. Invest in youth schemes and community initiatives that we lost due to Austerity. Take advantaged of how well placed our technologically literate young population are to one day drive a world leading industry. Stop hammering working people left right and centre with every economic decision. Take a risk and be bold with a sensible discussion around progressive taxation on the super wealthy.

      “Progressive fight back”.

It’s not very sexy, is it?
      It’s also completely reactionary.

Labour needs to grab the initiative, they need to give people and hope and belief in a better future. A clear message with a simple mission.

      What about..?
      – “Britain Deserves Better — Labour Delivers.”
      – “People Before Privilege”
      – “Making work pay”
      – “Rebuilding Brittain”
      – “Hope > Austerity”
      – “Tax wealth, not work”

      Simple, clean.

Honestly Labour just need to do more to publish their successes, things like their multiple infrastructure policies and achievements.

Though its admittedly an uphill battle, the Tories got their successes championed by default and were given the benefit of the doubt, while the worst is assumed about Labour and they need to fight for every positive headline they get. No one knows what they’re doing, no one hears about it.

This guy is single handedly making people move to the far right, the absolute fucking plum.

      It’s too late.

Most of these cookers have lost their minds.

The only way to stop fascism at this stage is to abandon the nice. Voting qualification exams, required adherence to basic principles of human rights to run for election or sit in parliament. Essentially, ban Reform.

If they riot, then stick them in jail until the problem subsides.

If a war breaks out with Russia, the UK like most other democratic countries will have to bite the bullet and deal to these people anyway – as was done in WW2. We should do it now.

Going to be hard with how disenfranchised people are.

I can only speak for myself but when I look around (cities especially) I can’t believe what I am seeing and as far as I am concerned the decline will only increase unless something dramatic is done. Other than that, I don’t care about whatever promises are made until I see real results.

Is this his attempt to claw back some of the progressives he said were free to leave if they didn’t like his leadership?

History will remember the silence of good natured people who kept quiet thinking “it’s not my problem.” Mocking the far right will make it more aggressive.

this is exactly why in a 2-party system the rise of Zack Polanski and the potential emergence of a new left party are so important

it pulls Labour policy and rhetoric away from the far right as they’re forced to deal with the threat of losing seats to the left

    10. LauraPhilps7654 on

Kinda need to be progressive to do that and not a friend of Peter Mandelson.

    11. AdRealistic4984 on

He should stop giving interviews and exclusives to The Sun for one thing

    12. ThatRagingHomo on

What’s he gonna do? Prevent thoughts and opinions in people’s heads? Monitor social media for wrong thinking? Make buddies with terrorists and threaten locals? Oh wait…

    13. Don’t actually fix the problems. Just launch attacks on the people who notice. What could go wrong.

    14. It’s ridiculous that Starmer would position himself as a ‘progressive’, in my opinion he’s exactly the opposite.

    15. Gdiddy18 on

How come everyone who wants control is “far right” I’m not far fuck all!

If anything I’m centre right but get tied into some slur essentially calling me a nazi for wanting control on immigration

    16. spydabee on

Well none of the left-leaning Labour voters will ever trust him again, and are more likely to vote Green now.

Telling people that actually, seeing all the decline around them is far right and things are peachy is certainly a strategy.

He needs to end the asylum system. It’s a complete joke, just have bespoke agreements with Ukraine, Hong Kong, etc. like we do atm, and only permit women and children.

      That would help a lot.

And then spur on growth with a huge amount of deregulation and being tough on crime – abolish Nature England, abolish the Sentencing Council, bring back the IPPs, massively cut down planning processes, abolish the Online Safety Act, and the remnants of EU digital regulation from the DSA, etc., introduce a a good threshold on VAT payments for international revenue too (this is terrible for digital business atm).

The digital ID push is good, but should be accompanied with residence registration and physical ID cards (like in Europe). Abolish the pensions’ Triple Lock, introduce tougher benefits caps, introduce a Land Value Tax.

Labour are the most sensible party still, and could turn things around but it will be a lot of work and some unpopular decisions.
