We had some lads at work who took the full 50k and went back to Eastern Europe. Golden handshake.

Meanwhile I’m still paying mine back like a schmuk.

Edit. I also knew people buying shit like new kitchens. And being installed by guys on furlough. It was an absolute gravy train that time. Then all the people who overnight got richer than Beckham as the government transferred 100’s of millions to strange accounts for PPE.

There is an article from a few hours ago touting the use of AI in uncovering fraud that has the claim it recovered £186m in COVID fraud. Someone is telling porkies. Or more likely both are completely made up.

It doesnt help that the Investigation Teams that were set up to investigate these claims were shut down – I wonder why ??

How much did it cost that department to find that amount over four years? Because I think I might have just spotted a bit more misuse right there.

The BBC are reporting that the government has recovered £500m lost to fraud, including £186m of Covid fraud. This news has come directly from from the cabinet office.

This is good news and should be celebrated. But because they are so poor at comms, it’s getting buried.

lAbour should ABSOLuTELY be shouting about how the tories lost £x to fraud and how they’ve recovered £x of it

It’s an easy win for them!

The Covid frauds are an example.of humanity at its worst. At a time when everyone needed to pull together, at a time when people were suffering. And what did our elected officials do? Figured out how to make their friends rich. It absolutely should have been an even bigger scandal, up there with the post office. I hope somebody comes out with the correct piece of media that guilts somebody into action. While some people were choosing who couldnt go to a funeral…

Honestly, at this point, I wish I’d taken every fucking penny offered rather than thinking about it like, huh, I’ll have to pay that back or its morally wrong to take cash I don’t need. I know a few that took every single penny and have never had a knock on the door, letter, or otherwise, and used it to pay for new kitchens, extensions, pay off cars, etc.

The NATIS stuff is being moved to another government department, it’s not been shut down.  There’s still cases to go after and be prosecuted
