Tesla’s UK sales dropped by £500m last year as the electric car maker faced a backlash over boss Elon Musk’s politics.

Sales fell from £2.47bn to £1.95bn during 2024, according to newly published accounts. Profits plunged from £32m to £19m.

The electric car giant defended the “solid” numbers and blamed the sales drop on “product mix and incentive programmes”, alluding to the company’s ageing model lineup and its use of discounting.

Who would have thought tying your brand to your CEO would backfire so massively.

Weird how being a total dick results in people not giving you money.

I wonder why Elon Musk is unpopular in a country where 43,000 civilians were killed by the Luftwaffe

There is some truth to the product mix; their cars are fundamentally the same as those on sale 6 years ago. Back then they were lightyears ahead of the competition but now they’ve caught up. Combining that with the whole Nazi thing is not great.

Incentive programs is nonsense though. They’re throwing cars out on crazy offers and have been for months to try and shift them.

As a previously massive fan of Tesla and its role in bringing electric car technology forward, I am ecstatic that people are voting with their wallets against Elons actions in recent years.

Teslas just look old fashioned compared to some of the others on the market. My neighbour got an EV Kia last month and it looks amazing. Meanwhile, my brother swapped his Tesla for a Polestar and says it is night and day different and love it.
