‘Inaccettabile’ per ignorare la crisi umana a Gaza – Obama

Ridiculously mild comment in the face of genocide. That is way over on the other side of the fence.

Israel’s existance wasn’t ever threatened by Hamas. It was an attack planned for years that could only kill 1200 out of 10 million. Repeating the Israeli line that Hamas is a credible threat to israel’s existence is to endorse what they did.

In response to an attack (which everyone in the international community was agreed they had a right to respond to, us and others emohasising that it needed to be “proportionate”,) , Israel used the position to launch a genocide. Of course genocide is inexcusable, but even if you don’t agree it is a genocide you can see that the flattening of Gaza down to rubble and the knowing killing of 14000 kids in their homes is far beyond a proportionate response.

It cannot be explained by the need Israelis feel to have a homeland. It can only be explained by a desire among certain Israelis to erase another people’s homeland and rid themselves of an inconvenience of their own colonialism.

They pretend that Hamas can challenge israel’s existence. It’s a lie. And Obama is repeating their arguments.

He is arguing that the Israel’s “don’t listen” unless you understand their need for a homeland. But he doesn’t acknowledge a) that is irrelevant to these events and b) they can be made to “listen”, with harsh sanctions that slowly push them into the third world over a few decades. And that sanctions worked against south Africa. And that the time for convincing them had ended. It’s time to sanction them tighter and tighter and tighter until there is some justice for Palestine.

Shame on Obama and fuck Biden.

People aren’t going to put down their phones and suddenly snap out of it. Social media is designed to be highly addictive – a lot of us can’t look away. This idea that we can’t and shouldn’t do anything to regulate it is why the US has led the world in terms of political and social implosion.

Ffs, it’s so addictive people are staring at social media while driving and causing car crashes. You’re seeing social situations where everyone is just staring at their phone and it’s always driven by social media. There’s something bizarrely addictive about it about it.
