People who work there are entitled to cycle and park their bike safely. 100k isn’t an exorbitant amount for a structure to house bikes

Is this really worth it if they’re relocating the hospital to the Vincent’s campus in a few years anyway?

However a bike shed would be far more useful and cheaper than a Sinn Féin TD.

I Googled “buy bike shed” on Google out of curiosity and they literally only cost a few k at most. For example, this site was one of the ones that popped up, but there are many many others selling similar options:

There needs to be some kind of investigation into how procurement is carried out in the Irish government. Something isn’t right here.

    5. There was no Leinster house bike shed. There was a car park resurfaced and a bike shed done and the former out of the latters budget.

That cost could cover free transportation and parking fees for hundreds of parents that need to be there.

Someone speaking sense at last…..I have no confidence in the government not to overspend on this to tune of millions

Can’t wait for experts to explain how somehow this is actually a good deal

The tender process has a max budget always on them

100k is the max budget that is allowed to be spent, typically it doesn’t get to that amount

Doesn’t seem like the article covered those details

Populist BS from SF again. They have picked the 100k figure out of their arse as you just have to put an estimate price band in when tendering. The price might come back in at 10k.

Even if it was, 100k isn’t far off what this costs. Look at the tender docs. Demolish existing building, design and build a proper replacement building. This isn’t a hut like you are all imagining.

This is also an open tender for anyone in Europe to price, unlike the OPW ones. It’s exactly how taxpayers money is supposed to be spent. Pearse isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed but he’s brilliant at fooling you.

I’ll do it for 4k. 6k if they want it fancy, and I’ll have it done in an afternoon.

ITT: many people who seem to somehow think it’s reasonable to spend 100k on a bike shed.

I cycled to secondary school every day and locked my bike to a big rack (oh I say). No cover. Is a cover really needed? When the saddle was wet I just wiped it and off I went. Some stuck a plastic bag over it to keep it dry.
Massive pergolas are only a few grand if they think it’s needed.

    14. Ted-101x on

Thank god we have a competent civil engineer like Pearse to tell us how much this should cost.

    15. Jean_Rasczak on

If I was you I would stop posting, you are just showing your ignorance on the tender process

    16. gowangowangowan on

The budget for 2026 is currently being drafted and considered by the Government. You would think SF would use their platform for something meaningful like advocating for policies for lower income individuals or spending that aligns with their policies.

Nah, they are tweeting nonsense like this and their voters ate it right up…

    17. 21stCenturyVole on

The tendering process is inherently for hiring criminals who want to rob the public.
