      I wonder if this could fall foul of the Equality Act, as being indirect discrimination against women, as it isn’t unknown for controlling husbands to forbid their wives to learn English. (I have a close family.member who was in this situation for a long time, until she was in a position to basically tell her husband to fuck off. Her English has improved a LOT since then.)
