Russia could have used the national welfare reserve funds to transition into a post oil economy like Norway and Saudi-Arabia are doing, but instead Putin decided to spend all of it plus a lot more money and hundreds of thousands of lives in a pointless war. It’s incredible how he practically single handedly destroyed the future of Russia.
(Yes, he wasn’t acting alone of course, but ultimately the invasion was up to him)
