I had presumed that Ross would prefer humphreys of the three tbh. Seems like they’ve knocked back these claims fairly easily all the same

Did Ross’s changes make a blind bit of difference in the end? Hate to say it, but I’d be more agreeable with Humphreys on this. Safety theater is just as ridiculous as security theater where feelings about a topic have more emotive weight over the actual outcomes and data.

As if Ross made any important improvements to road safety himself while in power. He stood next to some cyclists, that’s about it.

It’s a shame that some people think having a driving licence is a given right and that if you disrespect the safety of others by driving impaired nothing should happen.

I suspect this line of attack (like when ppl go for the Healy Raes) may end up shoring up her rural Ireland vote instead of costing her.

Yeah, let’s be fine with some people drink-driving because there is no infrastructure. UNREAL

Is there any way to know if the only reason she voted in favour of the legislation is because of the whip?
It says in the article she voted in favour of it at two stages, despite having stating she’s opposed to it. If she was forced to vote for it then she can fuck off, but if she voiced opposition to it, and then later changed her view, that’s different.

I think theres probably a lot of people that wouldnt see anything wrong with that

To be fair if you’re incapable of driving after 5 pints, you shouldn’t have a license

No wonder the Healy Raes are backing her.

Shane Ross, the man who will always be remembered for these tweet when he claimed he was charging his car only the charge point was broken
I foresee a very poor turnout in this election. Honestly think there’s no standout candidate.
Labour and the SocDems will probably regret not running their own candidates – a lot of it seems to have come down to not wanting to lose TDs.
None of them are presenting what I would consider a big vision – and the race itself is all just getting involved in this kind of petty stuff, with none of them seemingly capable of taking it up several notches.
I don’t see a Robinson, McAleese or Higgins type riding way above politics candidate emerging here at all. Two of them are basically TDs who are bogged down in policy issues and TD records and the other is a relative unknown.
It’s a very disappointing election. I mean beyond this all we had was fringe candidates coming forward that hadn’t any hope of getting past the nomination phase.
There were options there from academia and so on too with profiles closer to Robinson or McAleese who might have been a better fit.

No surprise, my local FG councillor has lost his license twice for drink driving, and that’s just 2 of his 15 convictions, FG also has the Twix Senator that’s found of drunken assault.

I mean firstly there’s almost no point in challenging her on it, because she’s hardly going to come out and say “oh yeah I think anything under 10 pints, drive away”. She’ll point to the fact she voted in favour of it etc..
I think everyone knows drink driving goes on in rural pubs, ever drive past a rural pub at 11pm, and there be 200 cars parked outside it. Do you think they’re all gonna walk home and collect the car tomorrow? And whether we like it or not, there’s a lot of people in rural Ireland who no problem driving home after 4/5 pints and they’d support this sort of view.
I guess if you’re from Dublin city, it’s easy to dismiss and look down on what goes on in West Cork. Not saying I agree with it, I personally think as soon as alcohol touches your mouth, you shouldn’t even consider getting into a car. But not everyone thinks that way, and not everyone acts that way. Plus let’s be honest, they do it because there’s zero enforcement also.

Many people will hate hearing this but if she came out and said that she thinks people should be able to have 2 pints and be able to drive home. She would get a lot of support.
I’ve never done it myself. I’m too paranoid and I know after one drink I sometimes get a bit dizzy.
However, if I go to the local village tonight. There will be loads of cars parked outside pubs. Vast majority of those people will have a few drinks and drive home.
This should not be a shock to anyone.

The thing about Humphreys isn’t that she’s just Fine Gael but she seems to be the worst of Fine Gael.

I respect her for that. We all knew, at the time, this was performative from Ross, a man with a draconian opinion of alcohol.

Am I wrong, or is this race just turning into an american style shit slinging competition from our media?
